China Machine Tool & Metalworking Trade Shows 2026–2027: Which Exhibition Fits Your Production Plan?

Compare nine China machine-tool and metalworking exhibitions for CNC machining, sheet metal, moulds, tube production, metallurgy and integrated equipment sourcing.

China’s machine-tool calendar serves several markets that happen to use the same words. A CNC machining centre, a tube mill, a sheet-metal line and a metallurgical furnace all belong to metalworking, but the teams buying them do not arrive with the same drawings, process questions or supplier lists. Regional exhibitions add another variable: a show close to the right factories may be more useful than a larger event in the wrong manufacturing base.

For buyers comparing a broad range of metal-cutting and forming equipment, MWCS in Shanghai and ITES Shenzhen are the strongest national starting points in this selection. CMES Dongguan and DMP offer two different routes into the Greater Bay Area’s manufacturing market, while Jinan, Hefei and Ningbo become valuable when the project has a regional supplier or factory programme. Tube China should lead a tube-and-pipe brief; MTM should lead a metallurgy, casting, forging, furnace or alloy-material brief. Neither belongs in a generic ranking of CNC shows.

This guide examines nine exhibitions scheduled between September 2026 and March 2027. It focuses on equipment and processes used to make metal products. Industrial controls, general robotics and factory utilities are treated separately because they require a different supplier search.

The first decision is therefore not “which show is biggest?” It is whether the project concerns a part-making process, a special metal product and its production chain, or a complete manufacturing system around the part.

Tube China and MWCS are both held in Shanghai, about three weeks apart, but they answer different briefs.

Tube China follows the product from material to finished tube. Its official categories include raw materials and tube products, manufacturing machinery, forming, heat treatment, sawing and laser cutting, measurement and testing, pipeline and OCTG technology, and plastic or composite pipe. A buyer can compare not only finished tubes but also how diameter, wall thickness, alloy, forming method, heat treatment and inspection affect production.

That makes it useful to tube manufacturers investing in a line, distributors or project buyers sourcing pipes, and technical teams working on energy, construction, automotive, mechanical or process-industry applications. A company looking for a general machining centre may find relevant cutting or testing technology there, but that overlap is not a reason to choose Tube China over a machine-tool show.

MWCS is the broader equipment choice. It is the Metalworking and CNC Machine Tool Show within CIIF and covers metal cutting, metal forming, lasers and supporting systems, tooling, testing and measurement. Its position inside the wider industrial fair also gives a production team access to automation, robotics, industrial software, energy and related factory technologies without turning MWCS itself into a general sourcing fair.

For an international buyer still comparing machine types, control options and production-line architecture, MWCS provides the better national benchmark. For a tube-specific specification, Tube China provides the deeper product-and-process chain. Attending both can be justified when a company is planning tube production and also needs broader machining, forming or factory-integration equipment; the date gap makes them two separate Shanghai trips rather than a combined exhibition week.

South China: three different routes into the Greater Bay Area

The three South China events share CNC, metalworking and automation content, yet each enters the Greater Bay Area manufacturing economy from a different angle.

CMES Dongguan for machine-tool depth close to factories

The current CMES Dongguan scope starts with metal cutting and forming machines, then adds CNC functional components, sheet-metal and stamping systems, grinding and measuring tools, machine accessories, EDM, automation and robots. Houjie places the exhibition close to dense electronics, mould, component, appliance and equipment supply chains.

This is a practical choice when the trip is built around a real part and continues into supplier trials or factory visits in Dongguan and neighbouring cities. It is particularly relevant to mould makers and precision-component teams that need to compare machining, EDM, grinding, tooling and measurement as connected steps. The value comes from the link to end-user factories, not from treating every automation booth as evidence that the show covers the whole smart-factory market.

DMP for a wider advanced-manufacturing ecosystem

DMP is broader. The official 2026 plan combines international metalworking and CNC-tool sections with automation, plastics equipment and materials, casting, 3D printing and manufacturing digitalisation. The hall plan separates machine tools, cutting tools, mould materials and accessories, industrial control, measurement, robots, plastics and casting while keeping them within one Shenzhen platform.

That breadth fits manufacturers whose product crosses several processes—for example, a die-cast or moulded component that also requires machining, inspection and automated handling. DMP still gives a CNC buyer several dedicated machine-tool, tooling and component halls. Its main advantage over CMES appears when the same component also involves moulds, casting, polymers, automation or digital production. CMES presents a more machine-tool-led route, while DMP supports a wider multi-process brief.

ITES for high-end equipment tied to production applications

ITES connects machine tools and precision metalworking with robotics, industrial control, assembly, testing, packaging and intelligent logistics. Its official structure uses five application areas—metal processing, new-energy and automotive manufacturing, medical-device manufacturing, electronics and product manufacturing, and intelligent logistics—to organise equipment around actual production needs.

This makes ITES especially useful when the buyer must assess a complete process for a precision part rather than a machine in isolation. The dedicated metal-cutting content includes turning, grinding, machining centres, core functional components, cutting tools, metrology and related digital manufacturing. DMP offers a broader December view of the Greater Bay Area’s manufacturing ecosystem; ITES provides a March programme with a stronger application-led precision-manufacturing structure.

December 2026: a same-date choice between manufacturing equipment and metallurgy

DMP in Shenzhen and MTM in Shanghai overlap from 3 to 5 December. Their dates create a real choice, but their products usually decide the answer before travel logistics do.

MTM is a metal-industry supply-chain event rather than a general machine-tool fair. Its event system covers metallurgical equipment and products, refractories, casting and forging, industrial furnaces and thermal engineering, tubes, wire, non-ferrous metals and alloy materials. The event traces its history to the Shanghai International Metallurgy Industry Expo launched in 1986, making 2026 its 40th-anniversary edition.

Choose MTM when the brief begins with metal grade, melt or heat-treatment process, casting or forging route, furnace technology, refractory system, tube or wire production, or non-ferrous and alloy supply. Choose DMP when the starting point is how a factory will mould, cast, machine, inspect, automate or digitally manage a component. A metallurgy team and a manufacturing-engineering team from the same company may reasonably divide between the two cities; one buyer trying to cover both will lose the depth that makes either event worthwhile.

March 2027: use the regional sequence selectively

Jinan, Hefei, Ningbo and Shenzhen create a four-stage March calendar, but it spans almost the entire month. It should be treated as a menu of regional access points, not a recommended four-show tour.

Jinan for a broad Shandong machine-tool programme

The organiser confirms the 30th Jinan edition for 2–5 March 2027. Jinnoc’s established machine-tool format spans CNC cutting, turning, milling and grinding, metal forming, laser processing, tooling, measurement and automated production cells; buyers should recheck the final 2027 hall plan before fixing meetings. It is held alongside the Jinan automation and power-transmission exhibition, so a project that includes controls, drives, pneumatics, hydraulics or factory air can divide work between the two shows without changing city or dates.

Jinan earns its place when the part family, candidate suppliers and factory follow-up are concentrated in Shandong or the wider Bohai manufacturing region.

Hefei for Anhui and nearby production investment

The organiser confirms the fourth Hefei edition for 11–14 March 2027. The established Jinnoc format includes CNC cutting and machining, forming, lasers, tools, measurement and factory automation; the final 2027 halls should be checked as they are released. The main distinction is regional reach: Hefei can support projects connected to manufacturing investment in Anhui, with potential supplier visits in and around the province.

Hefei becomes commercially useful when local end users, system partners or candidate factories are already part of the sourcing plan.

Ningbo for moulds, components and eastern Zhejiang manufacturing

The 28th Ningbo exhibition is organised into machine-tool equipment, mould technology, robotics and automation, and laser and sheet-metal sections. Its location connects the show with Ningbo and eastern Zhejiang’s established mould, component and equipment-manufacturing base.

For a buyer sourcing a machining supplier as well as equipment, this local industrial context matters. Meetings can be designed around the same part: first compare machine, tool, fixture and metrology options at the show, then visit candidate factories that operate similar processes. Ningbo is less compelling for a buyer whose complete shortlist and service network are already concentrated in South China.

ITES for the final March option in South China

ITES begins on 24 March, four calendar days after Ningbo ends, leaving three full days for supplier follow-up and travel. A Ningbo–Shenzhen route can work when the two stops serve distinct tasks—for example, eastern Zhejiang mould or component suppliers followed by equipment trials and integrator meetings in Shenzhen. When both show plans contain the same undifferentiated list of CNC brands, the additional flight and hotel days add little.

Match the show to the process

CNC cutting and precision machining

Start with MWCS or ITES for a broad benchmark. CMES Dongguan is strong for a Pearl River Delta programme, while Jinan, Hefei and Ningbo should be chosen according to the supplier and service region. Compare the exact machine configuration, not just the model family: spindle, axes, travels, control, thermal compensation, probing, chip handling and automation options change the result.

Sheet metal, laser and forming

MWCS and CMES Dongguan provide direct forming and sheet-metal content. DMP adds a wider mould, materials and automation context; Ningbo and ITES can be valuable when the application and regional factories match. Bring the actual material grade, thickness range, part size, bend sequence, tolerances and expected mix so suppliers can propose a process rather than quote a headline machine.

Mould, die and precision-component production

CMES Dongguan, DMP, Ningbo and ITES connect well with mould and component manufacturing. The best choice depends on where design changes, tool trials, component suppliers and follow-up factories can be coordinated. EDM, grinding, five-axis machining, measurement and repair capability may matter as much as the first cutting operation.

Tubes, pipes and tubular products

Tube China should lead the search. MWCS or CMES Dongguan becomes a useful addition only when the project also requires broader forming, machining or factory equipment beyond the tube-production chain.

Metallurgy, casting, forging, furnaces and alloy materials

MTM is the clearest starting point in this selection. DMP can complement it for casting equipment and downstream component production, but it does not replace MTM’s upstream metal, refractory and thermal-process coverage.

Evaluate equipment against one real production part

Before contacting exhibitors, prepare a drawing pack with material specification, starting stock, annual volume, batch size, critical dimensions, geometric tolerances, surface-finish requirements and current process. Mark which operations may change and which customer or regulatory requirements are fixed.

Ask shortlisted suppliers to propose the machine, workholding, cutting tools, process sequence, probing or inspection method, cycle-time basis and operator involvement for that same part. A useful demonstration should record the material and tooling used, setup conditions, measurement method and results. A sample produced under different assumptions is evidence of machine capability, but not yet proof of the promised production rate in the buyer’s factory.

The commercial comparison should include tooling, fixtures, coolant or extraction, automation, software, installation, training, acceptance testing, warranty, spare parts and service response—not only the base machine price. Confirm electrical and safety requirements for the destination, the language of manuals and HMI, remote-diagnostics access, export packaging, and who will support commissioning. These details often decide whether an attractive machine can become a stable process after delivery.

Define a factory acceptance test and site acceptance test around the same part, including machine warm-up, sample quantity, inspection method, cycle-time basis and acceptance limits. The quotation should also state foundation and lifting requirements, destination voltage and frequency, conformity documents, Incoterms and technician travel costs.
