China Building MEP, HVAC & Smart Building Trade Shows 2026–2027: A Systems Buyer’s Guide

Compare nine China fairs for HVAC, refrigeration, cleanrooms, elevators, pipe systems and smart-building controls by project scope and timing.

Mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems (MEP) are the services that make a building or facility operate. The exhibitions in this guide cover six different markets: building comfort, heating and water systems; refrigeration and cold chain; cleanrooms; building electrical and automation; specialist pipe systems; and elevators and escalators. A show that is strong for compressors and cold storage may still be the wrong place to lead a building-automation, high-purity-water or lift-system search.

ISH China & CIHE is the broadest starting point for integrated building comfort, heating and water systems. RACC and the Ningbo refrigeration expo serve heating, cooling, heat-pump and cold-chain projects in autumn; China Refrigeration in Shanghai adds a spring equipment and component selection window. APCTEE is the cleanroom route; GEBT covers building electrical systems and automation; BUILDEX China concentrates on pipe, fitting and installation systems; and WEE Nanjing covers elevators and escalators.

The nine exhibitions offer eight main travel windows between September 2026 and June 2027. APCTEE and AVAI share dates and the Canton Fair Complex; the other choices should be matched to the system responsibility and project stage before travel.

Start with the system boundary

For comfort HVAC and heat-pump work, the show choice turns on the required load, operating temperatures, energy source, operating pattern and control responsibility. AVAI is the early South China option; RACC and Ningbo add deeper refrigeration and component coverage in autumn; China Refrigeration adds a spring equipment and component comparison; ISH gives the wider building project more weight.

For refrigeration and cold chain, define product temperature, pull-down or freezing duty, door and turnover pattern, refrigerant strategy and monitoring or backup needs. RACC and Ningbo are the direct autumn choices, with China Refrigeration providing an April 2027 alternative. RACC is linked to NürnbergMesse’s CHILLVENTA network and spans components through refrigerated transport; Ningbo offers a long-running professional event in a manufacturing and logistics city.

For a cleanroom, the trip is controlled by cleanliness class, contamination source, pressure and airflow strategy, qualification route and high-purity utility requirements. APCTEE connects construction, filtration, FFUs, monitoring, testing and utilities for controlled manufacturing.

For building automation, compare field architecture and protocols, local operation during network failure, data and software ownership, cybersecurity, and commissioning support. GEBT concentrates on this electrical and control layer. For pipe systems, begin with the medium and purity requirement, pressure and temperature, material and joint method, and responsibility for installation and testing; these questions point to BUILDEX China.

For elevators and escalators, choose the supplier group at WEE Nanjing by whether the project needs a complete system, modernisation of an existing installation or a defined component.

September 2026: two Guangzhou shows, two technical routes

APCTEE and AVAI run from 16 to 18 September at the China Import and Export Fair Complex. A company can cover both in one Guangzhou trip, but only when it brings separate objectives and technical owners.

AVAI for indoor climate and building-service equipment

AVAI covers air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration, heat pumps and air purification, together with components, controls and installation solutions. It is the first calendar opportunity in this guide for a defined indoor-climate package. Compare equipment at the project’s operating point and confirm the model configuration, test basis, part-load behaviour, controls, installation scope and service responsibility.

For South China factory follow-up, distinguish complete-unit manufacturers from component and control suppliers. Their engineering evidence and responsibility for the assembled system will differ, so each visit should answer a specific gap left by the exhibition meeting.

APCTEE for controlled environments

APCTEE works best when the process and quality teams arrive with a contamination-control basis. A semiconductor, pharmaceutical, medical-device, food or precision-manufacturing project should define its room class, pressure strategy, environmental limits, monitoring and qualification route before meetings.

Identify each candidate’s actual role: designer or contractor, enclosure supplier, HVAC or FFU manufacturer, filter company, monitoring provider, utility supplier or qualification specialist. A complete proposal may require several parties; the useful outcome is a clear interface and named final responsibility.

When the co-located combination makes sense

The combination is useful for an advanced-manufacturing or life-science project whose controlled room also needs dedicated HVAC, heat pumps, ventilation, air treatment or utilities. Separate process-quality and general HVAC meeting lists, then bring the teams together for suppliers whose work crosses the room boundary. A normal commercial-building brief can concentrate on AVAI; a validated cleanroom brief should reserve most of its time for APCTEE.

October and November 2026: RACC or Ningbo for HVACR and cold chain

RACC opens in Hangzhou from 22 to 24 October. The 27th China Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Heat Pump, Ventilation & Cold Chain Expo follows in Ningbo from 17 to 19 November. They are less than a month apart and within the same wider eastern-China region, but the gap makes them separate trips rather than a single exhibition week.

RACC for a broad, export-facing HVACR chain

RACC connects complete units with compressors, heat exchangers, fans, controls, refrigerants, cold storage, commercial refrigeration and transport. The organiser’s completed 2025 edition reported 607 exhibitors and 41,012 professional visitors from 106 countries and regions, including 2,507 overseas visitors. Those historical figures support its international positioning; the 2026 exhibitor list will show where the current depth sits.

The show is particularly useful when the shortlist crosses several layers, such as a refrigeration unit with heat exchangers and controls or a cold room with doors and insulation. Use one system schematic to compare proposals and record who owns the circuit design, control logic, safety functions and commissioned settings.

Hangzhou also supports an appointment-led Zhejiang factory route. Xentra’s RACC Expo HVACR factory-sourcing guide explains how to move from show-floor comparisons into a small number of component, unit or control factories with different evidence roles.

Ningbo for a later professional refrigeration decision

The Ningbo event combines refrigeration, air conditioning, heat pumps, ventilation, controls, installation materials, cold storage and refrigerated transport. Its 27th edition gives buyers a long-running industry platform and a later opportunity to close gaps left after RACC.

Choose Ningbo as the primary event when the supplier region, budget timing or buyer network fits November. A second trip after RACC earns its cost when Hangzhou leaves a defined category or supplier alternative unresolved. Ningbo’s manufacturing and port economy can support focused follow-up on production, test facilities, reference applications, export documentation and after-sales arrangements.

April 2027: China Refrigeration for equipment and component selection

China Refrigeration runs from 7 to 9 April at Shanghai New International Expo Centre. The organiser’s hall plan separates air-conditioning and ventilation equipment from refrigeration units, cold storage, food-freezing equipment and refrigerated transport, alongside valves, refrigerants, automatic controls and other components. A buyer comparing complete refrigeration packages needs a different shortlist from an equipment manufacturer selecting parts for its own system.

RACC and Ningbo remain useful when supplier discovery and Zhejiang follow-up need to happen in autumn 2026. Shanghai is an alternative when the project’s equipment or component decision falls in spring 2027, not a compulsory return after those shows. Its refrigeration and cold-chain routes differ from ISH’s broader integration of heating, comfort and building water. Choose the April equipment search or the May Beijing building-services route by the unresolved purchase; they are separate travel windows, not one continuous exhibition trip.

For an equipment maker developing its own control electronics, the existing China Refrigeration–electronica controls-trip analysis examines whether a second Shanghai exhibition justifies extending the visit. That option belongs to a defined electronics-development brief, not a routine purchase of complete refrigeration units with controls included.

April 2027: WEE Nanjing for elevators and escalators

World Elevator & Escalator Expo runs from 21 to 23 April at Nanjing International Expo Center. It adds a specialist vertical-transport route: complete lift and escalator systems, controls, drives, components and maintenance technology. This is a separate procurement package from HVAC or general building automation, even when all three serve the same building.

Bring the intended duty and capacity, available shaft or installation space, control interfaces and local maintenance responsibilities. A component quotation cannot stand in for a complete installed system; the project’s qualified lift team needs to assess compatibility and acceptance.

For the narrower passenger-information interface, the WEE Nanjing elevator-display sourcing article explains how to prepare a display-supplier meeting. That article does not replace complete-lift supplier selection. China Refrigeration in Shanghai ends on 9 April, so WEE is a separate visit decision rather than a same-week building-services combination.

May 2027: ISH China & CIHE for integrated building services

ISH China & CIHE takes place from 12 to 14 May at China International Exhibition Center (Shunyi) in Beijing. The organiser’s 2027 fact sheet groups the show into HVAC, intelligent controls, home comfort and building water, while the current fair structure describes heating, energy, water, comfort, and installation and intelligence solutions.

This is the most complete single event in the guide for a building-services team coordinating several systems. A heating route connects heat sources, distribution and controls; a water route connects supply, drainage, treatment and piping; a comfort route links ventilation, purification, air conditioning and controls. Separate those meeting streams so each supplier receives the correct design basis.

The show is especially relevant to northern-China heating and renovation conditions. International projects should bring their own climate, load profile, energy constraints, water conditions, refrigerant requirements and control architecture so suppliers can adapt proposals to the target market.

For integrated proposals, ask one simple ownership question repeatedly: who is responsible for the performance of the assembled system? Product warranties may sit with several manufacturers while commissioning and seasonal optimisation sit with an installer or controls company. Require the proposal to name the system designer, equipment manufacturers, installer, controls integrator and commissioning lead rather than presenting them as one undifferentiated supplier. Commercial terms should reflect that split.

The ISH China & CIHE HVAC-system sourcing guide develops the show-specific route from design conditions and system boundaries to supplier evidence and commissioning responsibility.

June 2027: controls in Guangzhou, pipes in Shanghai

GEBT runs from 9 to 12 June in Guangzhou. BUILDEX China follows from 16 to 18 June in Shanghai. Three full calendar days separate the events, making a combined trip physically possible. It only makes commercial sense when the same project genuinely contains both building controls and a pipe or water-system workstream.

GEBT for the electrical and control architecture

The 24th GEBT is held at the Canton Fair Complex and runs concurrently with Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition. That pairing lets buyers study how lighting, sensors, occupancy, energy management and wider building automation interact. The main comparison is the architecture linking field devices, controllers, gateways, networks, software and building operations.

Bring a points list or system map covering required integrations, protocols, local fallback, cybersecurity roles and handover needs. Ask suppliers to distinguish open standards from functions that depend on their gateway, licence or cloud.

GILE can add value where luminaires, drivers and lighting-control interfaces are part of the same brief. Teams without a lighting workstream can keep their time on controls, energy and integration rather than treating the co-located fair as compulsory coverage.

BUILDEX China for the pipe system, not the whole building

The organiser has confirmed the 11th Shanghai International Pipe System Exhibition for 16–18 June 2027 at Shanghai New International Expo Centre. Its applications include wastewater, ultrapure-water transport, intelligent water supply, whole-house purification and HVAC.

A productive route begins with the medium and duty, then compares material compatibility, pressure and temperature, joint method, installation responsibility and test evidence. Price the installed method rather than the pipe alone.

The show can complement ISH’s broader building-water route. ISH is better for integrated heating, comfort and plumbing decisions; BUILDEX is stronger when the pipe, fitting, connection and installation system itself requires depth. Its ultra-pure-water content can also interest cleanroom projects, but APCTEE remains the better starting point for the full controlled-environment and qualification context.

A combined June trip should have two owners

The Guangzhou–Shanghai sequence works for a hospital, laboratory, data centre, advanced factory or large commercial project where the controls team and the water or piping team each have a prepared shortlist. Complete the GEBT control meetings, use the travel gap for relevant supplier visits, then begin BUILDEX with a separate piping brief. A general “smart building” request without two technical owners is better served by one focused event.

Prepare one operating basis before comparing suppliers

Every MEP shortlist needs a common operating basis. Define the design conditions, loads, operating profile, utilities, quality targets, controls, applicable standards and commissioning responsibility. Export projects also need the target voltage and frequency, refrigerant restrictions, documentation language, local parts and installer capability.

Draw the interfaces between mechanical equipment, power, controls, pipes, ducts, insulation and building work. Ask each candidate to state its supply boundary, required inputs, exclusions and handover points. This exposes gaps that a component test alone cannot reveal.

The show should produce comparable next steps: a selection or design calculation using the same conditions, a proposed system schematic, reference evidence from a similar duty, a controls or integration statement, and a factory or operating-site visit targeted at the remaining risk.
