Industrial supply is not one product market. A distributor building a tools and hardware catalogue, a machine builder selecting bearings and hydraulic components, a plant engineer redesigning a compressed-air system and an automotive buyer qualifying high-strength fasteners may all search for a China industrial show, yet they need different exhibitors and technical evidence.
For a broad tools, hardware and maintenance assortment, China International Hardware Show (CIHS) or China International Hardware Fair (CIHF) should lead the shortlist; the Ningbo Hardware & Electromechanical Expo offers a more explicitly export-oriented alternative. A machinery or plant-engineering team can combine PTC ASIA and ComVac ASIA on the same Shanghai dates, using one for motion and power-transmission components and the other for compressed air and vacuum systems. Fastener buyers have a genuine later choice between Fastener Expo Shanghai and International Fastener Show China.
This guide compares seven exhibitions scheduled from September 2026 to May 2027. They are organised into three buyer missions rather than one artificial ranking: general industrial hardware and tools, components and plant utilities, and the fastener supply chain.

The overlap between these groups is real but limited. A hardware distributor may stock fasteners, and a pneumatic system uses compressed air, but those facts do not make every show a substitute. The useful question is where each buying decision begins.
General hardware and tools: CIHS, Ningbo or CIHF?
These three exhibitions can compete for the attention of international distributors, importers, professional-tool retailers and maintenance-supply businesses. Their product ranges overlap, but their commercial emphasis and industrial depth differ.
CIHS for a broad international hardware assortment
CIHS returns to Shanghai from 28 to 30 September. Its official product range combines hand, power and pneumatic tools with abrasives, garden products, small machinery, building hardware, fasteners, wire and mesh, locks and security products. That breadth suits a buyer assembling several related categories for professional trades, construction, home improvement or distribution.
The show is jointly organised by the China National Hardware Association and Koelnmesse. Its role is therefore not limited to one workshop process: it is a market-facing platform where an importer can compare range depth, packaging and private-label readiness across multiple hardware families.
CIHS becomes less direct when the requirement is a single technical component inside industrial machinery. A buyer searching for a defined bearing, hydraulic valve or vacuum pump should begin with the corresponding specialist show, even if a general hardware exhibitor carries something similar.
Ningbo for export-oriented supplier discovery
The Ningbo event is explicitly named and positioned as an import and export expo. Its current scope brings together hardware tools and fasteners, electromechanical products, smart locks and security, building hardware, industrial equipment, abrasives and occupational protection. The organiser also places overseas purchasing and export development at the centre of the programme.
For an international buyer, this creates a different reason to attend. The exhibition can be used to look for factories, export-ready product ranges and private-label partners serving construction, maintenance and light-industry channels. Ningbo’s connection with Zhejiang manufacturing and port logistics gives the trip a practical follow-up direction when candidate factories can be arranged before arrival.
The export focus creates more opportunities to discuss documentation, destination-market experience, packaging and after-sales arrangements. Buyers can use those conversations to identify promising factories, then verify the relevant standards, product evidence and support capability for each category.
CIHF for a wider industrial and maintenance mix
The 40th China International Hardware Fair follows in Shanghai from 17 to 19 March 2027. Its official categories retain hand, power and pneumatic tools and abrasives, then extend into welding equipment, bearings, moulds, general hardware, hoisting equipment, agricultural tools, electromechanical and mechanical equipment, logistics equipment, storage and occupational safety.
That mix can be useful to industrial distributors and maintenance, repair and operations suppliers whose catalogues cross workshop tools, lifting, fabrication, material handling and work protection. CIHS has a strong combination of tools, building hardware, locks and security; CIHF reaches further into several plant and workshop categories. The difference is more useful than a simple argument about total exhibition size.

One Shanghai week for components and plant utilities
PTC ASIA and ComVac ASIA take place from 3 to 6 November at the same Shanghai New International Expo Centre. This is the clearest same-trip combination in the guide, because the two scopes meet inside real machines and factories without duplicating one another.
PTC ASIA for motion, force and power transmission
PTC ASIA covers eleven established product groups: hydraulics, pneumatics, seals, gears, motors, drive couplings, chain transmission, belt transmission, springs, bearings and industrial subcontracting. These components determine how production machines, mobile equipment and automated lines create and control movement.
Machine builders can use the show to compare components around one mechanism rather than collect unrelated catalogues. A hydraulic application should define load, force, speed, pressure, flow, duty cycle, fluid, temperature, contamination control and installation envelope. A gear, bearing or linear-motion choice needs operating load, speed, life target, lubrication, alignment, noise, accuracy and maintenance conditions. Suppliers can then respond to the same operating case.
PTC also includes pneumatics, but its emphasis is on the components that use and control compressed air—such as actuators, valves and related motion systems. That distinction explains why ComVac can add value during the same visit.
ComVac ASIA for generating, treating and measuring plant air and vacuum
ComVac concentrates on compressors and the infrastructure around them: air, process and special compressors, post-treatment, lubricants, components, vacuum pumps and valves, calibration and measurement instruments, leak detection and application equipment. The completed 2025 edition occupied nearly 30,000 square metres and hosted nearly 350 exhibitors according to the organiser, giving the specialist scope meaningful depth without relying on a 2026 forecast.
A plant-air brief should begin with demand over time, not installed motor power alone. Record required pressure at the point of use, flow profile, peak and base loads, air-quality and dew-point requirements, existing pressure losses, leakage, redundancy, ambient conditions, operating hours and future expansion. For vacuum, define target pressure, pumping speed, process gas or vapour, contamination risk, cycle and allowable downtime.
Compare complete system proposals: compressor or pump technology, controls, dryers and filters, receivers, piping interfaces, heat recovery, cooling, noise, measurement, maintenance intervals and service coverage. Energy use at the actual load profile often matters more than the headline efficiency at one test condition.
When the combination makes sense
A machinery manufacturer may use PTC for bearings, gears, motors, seals, cylinders and valves, then ComVac for the compressed-air or vacuum infrastructure serving the same equipment. A factory-upgrade team can divide responsibilities between machine-level motion and plant-level utilities, then meet again around interface questions such as pressure stability, air quality, leakage monitoring and control integration.
The combination is strongest when a project genuinely covers both machine-level transmission and plant-level air or vacuum systems. A compressor distributor or a designer selecting one bearing can instead concentrate on the corresponding specialist show. The shared dates and venue make additional research convenient, while the engineering brief determines how much of it belongs in the itinerary.
Fasteners: a genuine choice between FES and IFS China
Fastener Expo Shanghai in March and International Fastener Show China in May are the closest substitutes in this guide. Both cover finished fasteners and the production chain behind them, and both serve manufacturers, distributors and industrial end users. The choice should be made from the required products, exhibitors and timing rather than from broad claims that either event represents the entire market alone.
FES for an early-March whole-chain search
FES is scheduled for 3–5 March at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. Its official scope includes general screws and bolts, automotive connectors, riveting products, profiled metal parts, carbon, stainless and special steel wire, cold-heading and forming equipment, heat and surface treatment, moulds, testing and laboratory instruments.
This supports two linked missions. Finished-product buyers can compare standard and special fasteners by material, geometry, grade, coating and application. Fastener factories can investigate wire, tooling, forming, treatment, sorting, testing and packaging equipment. The March timing may also suit companies that need to establish a 2027 supplier or equipment shortlist early in the year.
IFS China for a May industry-chain and application programme
IFS China takes place from 20 to 22 May at Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. It is initiated and organised with the China General Machine Components Industry Association and its fastener association, alongside the exhibition organisers. The 2027 plan covers raw materials, manufacturing equipment, tooling and dies, testing, industrial services, standard and specialty fasteners and stamping components. A new third hall is intended for advanced fastening, high-performance products, smart manufacturing and other industry developments.
For 2027, the organiser highlights an upgraded Hall 3 dedicated to advanced fastening technologies, high-performance fasteners, smart manufacturing, sustainability and emerging industry trends. The show is relevant to fastener factories as well as automotive, aerospace, rail, construction, machinery, electronics, shipbuilding and energy buyers. That application structure can help when the sourcing task concerns a high-performance or sector-specific connection rather than a generic catalogue item.
How to choose between the two
Begin with the exact fastener family and application. A distributor of standard products should compare the current exhibitor lists for sizes, standards, materials, coatings, packaging and commercial range. An engineering buyer should identify load case, joint design, service environment, installation method, required standard or drawing, strength grade, traceability and validation evidence. A fastener manufacturer should compare machinery, tooling, process-monitoring, heat and surface treatment, sorting, inspection and changeover needs.
FES and IFS China are more than two months apart, so attending both is possible for a company with separate product and manufacturing-equipment workstreams. A second visit is most valuable when it closes a defined gap: high-performance products, a missing production process, a different exhibitor group or a technical application programme.
Can the November shows and Ningbo form one trip?
PTC and ComVac end in Shanghai on 6 November; the Ningbo Hardware & Electromechanical Expo begins on 12 November. The five full intervening days leave room for meetings, supplier follow-up and travel. A combined route can therefore work for an industrial distributor whose range genuinely includes power-transmission components, compressors or vacuum products, tools and electromechanical goods.
The two stops should have separate objectives. Shanghai is for specialist engineering discussions about components and utility systems. Ningbo is for export-facing product and supplier discovery across a broader hardware range. Using one undifferentiated list at both locations would blur technical components, capital equipment and catalogue products that require different comparison sheets.
Match the guide to the buyer
Hardware importer, distributor or professional retailer
Start with CIHS or CIHF according to travel timing and category mix. Add Ningbo when factory discovery, export packaging and Zhejiang follow-up are central. Use a specialist fastener show only when fasteners account for enough range depth or technical value to justify a separate supplier programme.
Industrial MRO and maintenance supplier
CIHF provides the widest workshop and maintenance mix in this shortlist. PTC becomes relevant for bearings, seals, drives, hydraulics and pneumatics; ComVac for compressor, treatment and vacuum systems. The value of combining them depends on whether the catalogue and technical team can handle product selection, service and spare-parts responsibilities in those categories.
Machine builder or equipment manufacturer
PTC should usually lead for motion and transmission components. Add ComVac when the machine includes compressed-air generation, process gas or vacuum requirements, or when the buyer also controls factory utilities. FES or IFS China belongs in the plan when fasteners are engineered parts with defined mechanical, environmental or traceability requirements.
Fastener distributor, factory or end-user engineer
Compare FES and IFS China first. General hardware shows can add standard products and wider distribution contacts, but they will not normally match the process depth of a full-chain fastener event.
Plant engineering and energy-efficiency team
ComVac is the most direct event in this selection. PTC can complement it for pneumatic controls, seals, motors, bearings and drive components around production assets. Arrive with measured demand and operating data so supplier conversations stay tied to the real plant rather than a theoretical package.
Prepare three different comparison sheets
A general hardware sheet should record product specification, material, dimensions, intended user, applicable market requirements, packaging, branding, accessory set, quantity bands, sample plan and range continuity. Hand feel and visible finish matter for tools and hardware, but durability, material and compliance still require controlled evidence.
A fastener sheet should record standard or drawing, dimensions and tolerances, material and strength grade, thread, heat treatment, coating, corrosion requirement, joint environment, lot traceability, inspection method and packaging. Automotive or other controlled applications may also require process approval documents and change-control commitments. Keep finished-product suppliers separate from machinery and tooling providers unless the company genuinely covers both.
A component or utility sheet should begin with operating conditions. For PTC products, define load, motion, pressure, speed, duty and life. For ComVac systems, define demand profile, air or vacuum quality, energy basis, redundancy, installation constraints and maintenance. Quotations can then be compared on the same engineering case, including controls, accessories, commissioning, documentation, spare parts and support after export.
