A visual-communication project may combine a printed graphic, rigid sign, lightbox, illuminated letter, retail fixture, fabric display and digital screen. The suppliers behind those elements can appear under the same “advertising” label while using very different equipment and materials. Buyers therefore need to decide whether they are sourcing a production process, building a sign-making workshop, purchasing finished display systems or expanding a distributor portfolio.
For a broad South China equipment benchmark, DPES China 2027 is the strongest starting point in this four-show selection. APPPEXPO provides a similarly broad Shanghai platform one week later, with more emphasis on connecting advertising production to retail, display, packaging and spatial applications. SIGN CHINA 2026 is the clearer early choice when one project crosses printed graphics, fabricated signage, LED displays and digital signage. Guangzhou’s SDPE/ASGA exhibition is the specialist route for screen printing and industrial inkjet processes, including textile and direct-to-object applications.
All four records represent separate trips. DPES and APPPEXPO are close enough to combine—DPES ends in Guangzhou on 27 February and APPPEXPO opens in Shanghai on 3 March—but their broad scopes overlap substantially. The two-city route is justified for a distributor building a wide product portfolio or a major investment team with separate shortlists. Most buyers will work more effectively by choosing one and using the remaining days for supplier demonstrations or factory visits.

Begin with the finished visual product
Large-format graphics and printed media
This route covers banners, billboards, posters, wall and floor graphics, vehicle wraps, backlit graphics, exhibition panels and other wide-format output. The important chain is printer, ink, media, colour workflow, cutting or finishing and the environment in which the graphic will be installed. SIGN CHINA, DPES and APPPEXPO all provide broad comparison opportunities.
Their roles differ by timing and project context. SIGN CHINA offers the September 2026 window and connects printed graphics directly to sign fabrication and digital displays. DPES provides a manufacturer-rich Guangzhou equipment route in February 2027. APPPEXPO follows in Shanghai and places the same production technologies in a wider advertising, retail and display environment.
Fabricated signs, lightboxes and illuminated letters
A finished sign combines more than the graphic face. Acrylic or metalwork, channel letters, light sources, power supplies, lightboxes, structures, weather protection, mounting and installation determine the delivered system. SIGN CHINA and DPES make this physical sign-production chain particularly visible; APPPEXPO adds a large range of display, lighting and retail-scene applications.
Buyers sourcing finished signs should distinguish the factory that fabricates the structure from the suppliers of LED modules, power components, printed faces or control systems. A workshop buying equipment has a different brief: expected material thicknesses and formats, cutting and bending, welding or bonding, letter construction, finishing, throughput and the range of products the workshop intends to sell.
Textile graphics, apparel decoration and personalised production
Soft signage, flags, backdrops, sportswear, apparel decoration and personalised products may use dye sublimation, direct-to-fabric, DTF, DTG, screen printing, transfer and embroidery. DPES and the Guangzhou SDPE/ASGA event provide the clearest routes in this group. SIGN CHINA also includes digital textile printing as part of its wider visual-communication scope.
The product decides the process. A backlit exhibition fabric needs different colour, stretch, fire and viewing performance from a washed garment or a promotional transfer. Bring the actual fabric class, expected use, size, artwork, colour target, wash or weather exposure, hand feel and production volume before comparing printer speed or headline resolution.
Industrial printing on objects and functional surfaces
Industrial printing includes decoration or functional layers on glass, plastics, electronics, automotive parts, appliances, containers and other shaped or technical surfaces. Adhesion, pretreatment, registration, curing, durability, part handling and integration into the production line matter more than advertising output size.
The Guangzhou screen-printing and industrial-inkjet exhibition is the most focused option for this task. Its scope combines screen and digital equipment, UV flatbed and direct-to-object systems, inks, substrates, imaging, curing and auxiliary processes. DPES and APPPEXPO also contain industrial digital-printing technologies, but the specialist November event is easier to navigate when the brief starts with one manufacturing application.
Digital signage and LED displays
Digital signage adds display hardware, media players, content systems, networking, mounting, power, control and ongoing operation to the visual project. SIGN CHINA’s co-location with LED CHINA and Digital Signage China makes it the most direct bridge from printed or fabricated signage into connected displays. DPES and APPPEXPO also include LED and digital-display suppliers.
This guide keeps the focus on visual production and sign projects. Buyers whose main responsibility is LED display performance, professional AV integration, control rooms, conferencing or live-event systems should use the separate China professional AV, LED display and event-technology guide. A retail-sign contractor may need both domains; an LED integrator rarely needs to compare every wide-format printer.
September 2026: SIGN CHINA for a mixed physical-and-digital sign project
SIGN CHINA runs from 15 to 17 September at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. It is co-located with LED CHINA, Digital Signage China and Digital Printing China in a four-shows-in-one format. The organiser’s nine topics move from digital and textile printing, media and acrylic panels into laser cutting, signs, lightboxes, channel letters, retail displays, LED lighting, LED displays and digital signage.
This structure suits a buyer responsible for the complete visual layer of a store, transport site, hospitality project, exhibition or outdoor-advertising programme. One project might require printed wall graphics, wayfinding, illuminated letters and digital menu boards. The show allows the team to examine the hand-offs between those packages instead of sourcing each in isolation.
A productive route starts with an asset list. Mark which elements are temporary or permanent, indoor or outdoor, viewed near or far, static or updated, locally manufactured or shipped complete. Then separate the packages: printed graphics and media, fabricated signs and structures, lighting, screens and control. Suppliers can be compared against the element they will actually deliver.
SIGN CHINA is less efficient for a factory whose only decision concerns a specialised screen-printing line for one industrial part. That team will find a more concentrated process discussion at the Guangzhou event in November. Conversely, a sign company that wants to expand from print into digital storefronts gains more from Shanghai’s co-located structure.
November 2026: Guangzhou for screen and industrial printing depth
The 48th ASGA/SDPE screen-printing and digital-industrial-printing exhibition runs from 18 to 20 November in Area B of the Canton Fair Complex. The organiser positions it around digital printing, screen printing, industrial digital printing equipment, materials and technologies, with textile printing and personalised production also present.
Its value lies in process detail. A supplier can discuss ink deposition, mesh or printhead, pretreatment, fixture and part handling, registration, curing, adhesion and resistance against one actual substrate or object. This is different from walking a broad sign show to assemble a catalogue of finished advertising products.
Prepare sample parts or an exact material description, the printable area and shape, artwork or functional pattern, target layer thickness or appearance, adhesion and resistance tests, acceptable cycle time, pretreatment, curing limits and the upstream and downstream handling. Ask suppliers to identify which results have already been demonstrated on a comparable application and which still require trials.
Textile and personalised-production buyers can use the same discipline. Define the fabric or blank, pretreatment, colour and feel, wash or rub performance, order mix, changeover pattern and finishing. A fast printer is only useful when ink, curing, handling and the downstream process can sustain the same output.
February 2027: DPES for a broad South China production portfolio
DPES China runs from 24 to 27 February in 13 halls in Area B of the Canton Fair Complex. The 34th edition brings together digital and textile print, screen printing, embroidery, intelligent cutting, laser engraving, media and substrates, signs, display equipment and LED lighting.
This breadth suits equipment distributors, sign-production companies and print-service businesses that serve several output categories. A company can compare how one equipment and consumables portfolio supports banners, vehicle graphics, textile products, cut or engraved signs, illuminated displays and customised goods. The four-day schedule also gives serious buyers time to separate first-look scouting from agreed demonstrations.
The hall plan should follow production cells, not every category. A wide-format graphics cell may include printer, ink, media, laminating, cutting and finishing. A sign-fabrication cell may add CNC or laser work, channel letters and lighting. A textile cell uses a different printer, ink, heat or curing process and finishing. Comparing complete cells reveals missing equipment and interface responsibility.
For a buyer with only one industrial screen-printing application, DPES may be broader than necessary; the November Guangzhou exhibition provides the specialist route. For a sign business planning a wider workshop or distribution portfolio, DPES is the more complete South China choice.
March 2027: APPPEXPO for the wider advertising and display market
APPPEXPO opens at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from 3 to 6 March. Its official scope connects inkjet printing, cutting, engraving, materials, signs, displays, commercial retail, lighting, textile printing, quick print, packaging and industrial digital-print applications.
The Shanghai event is useful when the buyer wants to understand where production equipment will be used, not only how it operates. Retail environments, exhibition displays, quick-print services, packaging, signs and illuminated or digital systems place machines and materials inside different business models. This helps distributors and service companies decide which applications deserve investment.
Keep the shortlist tied to revenue-producing products. A quick-print company may need small-format digital output, finishing and web-to-print rather than a super-wide printer. An exhibition contractor needs reusable structures, graphics, fabric, lighting and installation logistics. A retail-display producer may combine printed board, acrylic fabrication, lightboxes and screens. Similar equipment labels can lead to different production cells.
APPPEXPO’s size makes pre-booked demonstrations valuable. Send the artwork, substrate, dimensions and output expectation in advance, then compare the resulting product rather than stand-side speed claims. Reserve one final session with shortlisted suppliers to confirm the exact configuration, included software and accessories, training, consumables, service and sample or factory follow-up.
Should DPES and APPPEXPO be one trip?
The calendar makes the combination possible: three full days separate the end of DPES in Guangzhou and the opening of APPPEXPO in Shanghai. The content overlap is also substantial. Both cover digital and textile printing, signage, cutting or engraving, materials, displays and LED-related products.
A combined trip makes sense for a distributor sourcing across many categories, a group dividing work among specialised teams, or an investment programme with enough pre-booked meetings to use both fairs differently. DPES can lead the manufacturer and production-equipment search in South China; APPPEXPO can add Shanghai suppliers, broader advertising applications and commercial-display context.
For a single production company, one show plus factory visits is usually stronger. Choose DPES when South China manufacturers and a broad workshop-equipment portfolio lead the brief. Choose APPPEXPO when the Shanghai supplier base and the wider advertising, retail and display market matter more. Use the gap for demonstrations and factory appointments instead of repeating general hall scouting.
Bring one real visual project into every meeting
Prepare a small project schedule with the finished elements, dimensions, viewing conditions, lifetime, indoor or outdoor exposure, substrate or object, colour reference, lighting or display requirement, installation method, quantity and delivery pattern. For production equipment, add representative files, expected job mix, current bottleneck and the tests that define an acceptable output.
Use the same project with every serious candidate. Ask who supplies the media, ink, lighting, electronics, structure, software and installation; which elements are manufactured in-house; which are standard or customised; and what will be tested before shipment. For equipment, agree the substrate, artwork, speed setting and finishing route used in the demonstration, then retain comparable samples.
After the show, visits should target the unresolved risk. A finished-sign supplier visit checks fabrication, assembly, electrical work, weather protection and packing. An equipment-maker visit checks engineering, build and test capability, software dependencies, spare parts and training. An application reference site shows whether the process remains stable in daily production.
