If you are developing a shampoo, body lotion or skincare product in China, start with what you need a supplier to take responsibility for. Do you want a partner to develop and manufacture the product, technical input for a formula your team will develop, or packaging for a product whose formulation and manufacturing arrangements are already taking shape?
An ingredient-focused fair suits a team that can evaluate and carry forward formulation work. A broader production-supply-chain show is a more direct starting point for comparing development and manufacturing partners. If packaging is the unresolved purchase, bring the formulator and manufacturer into that decision, even when you intend to buy the pack separately.
Four fairs, different reasons to visit
These recommendations follow the organisers’ published scopes. They identify relevant places to look, not confirmed capabilities of individual exhibitors.
| Fair | Dates and venue | Useful reason to consider it |
|---|---|---|
| International Personal Care Expo — Shanghai 2026 (PCE) | 28–30 October 2026; Shanghai New International Expo Centre, Shanghai | Compare everyday personal-care products and potential private-label or collaborative-development partners. |
| Cosmopack Asia 2026 | 10–12 November 2026; AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong | Investigate ingredients, contract manufacture and packaging within a supply-chain-focused exhibition. |
| PCHi 2027 | 24–26 February 2027; China Import and Export Fair Complex, Guangzhou | Explore an ingredient or formulation question with a technical audience. |
| China Beauty Expo — Shanghai 2027, focusing on CBE Supply | 12–14 May 2027; Shanghai New International Expo Centre, Shanghai | Compare development suppliers within a wider beauty exhibition that also covers finished brands. |
When an ingredient fair answers the right question
PCHi — Personal Care and Homecare Ingredients — is the clearest fit among these four when the unresolved work concerns ingredients or formulation. The organiser identifies formulators, manufacturers and research-and-development technologists among its professional audience, with a focus on ingredients, technical exchange and related regulatory information. That is a different emphasis from browsing finished products or selecting a company to deliver a complete private-label range. PCHi show information.
For a brand working with a formulator, a useful visit might address a specific development brief: what ingredient options merit evaluation, what supporting information is available, and who will assess them in the intended product. Bring the person who can make those judgements, whether that is your own technical lead or an appointed development partner.
If you have a product idea but nobody responsible for formulation, an ingredients visit may help you understand the choices without solving your immediate purchasing problem. A raw-material discussion does not, by itself, appoint a manufacturer or establish who will produce samples, coordinate packaging and deliver the finished product. In that situation, finding a development partner may be the more useful first task.
A team that already has a manufacturing partner may still benefit from PCHi if it retains formulation decisions. In that case, the ingredient visit complements an existing relationship rather than starting a new manufacturer search.
Where to compare development and manufacturing partners
For a brand seeking help beyond individual ingredients, PCE, Cosmopack Asia and CBE Supply offer three relevant searches. Supplier categories include services described as original equipment manufacturing (OEM), original design manufacturing (ODM) and private label. Use those terms to start conversations, then establish whether the actual proposal is to manufacture your formula, adapt an existing product or undertake development for you.
Everyday personal care: give PCE a specific product brief
PCE is worth considering for products such as shower gel, body lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Its published scope also includes routine oral care, including toothpaste and mouthwash. This is relevant to everyday personal-care sourcing, not dental treatment equipment.
Crucially for a brand developing its own range, PCE lists commissioned production, private-label processing and collaborative development within its production-supply-chain category, alongside materials, equipment and testing services. It is therefore more than a finished-product browsing opportunity. Its wider visitor profile includes distributors, retailers, pharmacies, hotels and e-commerce buyers, however, so a product on display should not be taken as evidence that its supplier will develop your version. PCE organiser introduction.
Before committing to this visit, seek meetings around your actual product category and the development work you want outsourced. PCE’s fit is less direct if your main purpose is an ingredient-led technical investigation rather than finding a partner for a personal-care product.
Broader beauty development: compare Cosmopack with CBE Supply
Cosmopack Asia’s published categories span ingredients, contract manufacturing and private label, primary and secondary packaging, machinery, print and labels, formulation and testing. That makes it a relevant option when you want to compare a development/manufacturing proposal with separate specialist suppliers, or need manufacturing and packaging discussions on the same visit. Its scope supports that search; it does not establish that any one exhibitor will coordinate the whole project. Cosmopack Asia fair information.
CBE Supply covers a similarly broad set of development needs: OEM/ODM, ingredients, packaging, machinery, formulation and testing or inspection. It sits within China Beauty Expo, whose wider offer also includes finished brands and professional beauty. Treat CBE Supply as the development-sourcing part of the Shanghai edition, not a separate exhibition to add to your calendar. CBE Supply scope.
For a skincare, colour-cosmetics or fragrance brief, focus your own-product sourcing on CBE Supply. If you also buy existing brands or work on distribution, the wider exhibition may make the same visit useful for that separate task. Keep the meeting lists distinct: a finished-brand offer answers a different purchasing question from a proposal to develop your product. The CBE product-development sourcing guide offers a more detailed look at that visit.
Cosmopack and CBE Supply are credible alternatives for broad development sourcing, not a ranking of supplier quality. The useful choice depends on the product-specific meetings you can arrange, the responsibilities you intend to retain, and whether November 2026 or May 2027 fits the work you are ready to discuss.
Packaging: decide who connects the parts
A packaging-led visit makes sense when the pack is the purchase you need to resolve. It can also run alongside formulation work, provided the people responsible for both can assess the choices together. Cosmopack and CBE Supply explicitly cover packaging alongside formulation and manufacture; PCE also includes packaging materials within its production-supply-chain scope. The important issue is how a separately sourced pack will be incorporated into the product being developed.
For a body lotion, for example, a packaging supplier’s offer answers a different question from a manufacturer’s offer for a filled product. Before treating them as interchangeable quotations, establish what each includes and who will bring the formula, container and dispensing arrangement together.
Keep the discussion at the level of responsibilities:
- Who will assess the proposed formula and pack together, including compatibility and dispensing?
- Who will confirm the pack can be used with the intended filling and assembly arrangements?
- Who will coordinate samples, testing and any changes needed before production?
You can appoint a partner to coordinate that work or retain coordination while buying from separate suppliers. The former needs a clear statement of what the partner actually covers; the latter needs someone on your side able to resolve questions across suppliers. Neither arrangement follows automatically from an OEM or ODM label. Agree how formulation work, changes and any exclusivity will be handled rather than inferring ownership from the service name.
Treat testing and destination-market requirements as work to assign and verify, not as an assurance supplied by exhibition participation.
Choose a visit you can put to work
The dates offer separate opportunities from October 2026 to May 2027, not a development sequence or a promised launch timetable. Consider a second fair when it addresses a different unresolved purchase or adds relevant supplier meetings; attending all four is not a requirement for completing a product.
Hong Kong has one useful conditional addition. Cosmoprof Asia, the associated finished-beauty show, runs on 11–13 November 2026 at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. It overlaps Cosmopack on 11–12 November, but Cosmopack is at AsiaWorld-Expo on Lantau, near the airport. Add Cosmoprof if finished-market or distribution work is part of your brief, and allow separate time for the two venues. Check current organiser arrangements for access and transport rather than assuming a shared badge or shuttle. The Cosmopack/Cosmoprof two-venue guide develops that choice further.
Before booking any of these visits, send prospective meeting partners the same short brief: the product and intended market, what is already decided about formulation and packaging, the development work you need, and your intended order scale. Ask them to identify what they can undertake, what would be handled by others, and what they need from you to proceed. Confirm relevant exhibitors and meetings before building travel plans around them.
After the fair, compare proposals against that brief, including sample work, responsibilities and the next decision required from each side. A useful result is a shortlist you can follow up with comparable requests—not simply a collection of attractive products or ingredient ideas.
