China Automation, Robotics & Smart Manufacturing Trade Shows 2026–2027

Compare China's industrial automation, robotics and smart-manufacturing shows for factory upgrades, controls sourcing and humanoid robot components.

China’s automation calendar can look repetitive at first sight. Several events use the language of smart manufacturing, robotics and digital factories, yet they lead buyers into different supplier markets. Some are large industrial platforms where several departments can investigate one factory-upgrade programme. Others concentrate on controls, motion, machine vision or regional system integrators. Hangzhou’s humanoid-robot event covers a different set of products again.

For a broad national benchmark, China International Industry Fair and its Industrial Automation Show in Shanghai provide the strongest starting point in this group. Buyers whose supplier work is tied to a specific manufacturing region should instead compare Chengdu, Jinan, Dongguan and Tianjin. The Hangzhou event belongs on the shortlist when humanoid robots, embodied intelligence or their specialist components are part of the brief. The table links seven event pages, but CIIF and IAS form one Shanghai event ecosystem, so the guide presents six practical travel choices.

This guide focuses on cross-industry automation and robotics platforms. Machine-tool-led, additive-manufacturing and specialist industrial-supply shows are outside its scope because they answer different sourcing tasks.

Start by separating three kinds of decision

The useful comparison is not simply national show versus regional show. Buyers first need to identify what they actually need to buy or evaluate.

Factory-transformation platforms are useful when the project crosses several departments. CIIF, Chengdu International Industrial Fair and CIEX allow a team to move between automation, production equipment, industrial software, components and related systems. Their breadth helps when a company is still defining how an upgraded plant should fit together.

Automation-system exhibitions go deeper into control and motion. IAS, Jinan and Dongguan are more suitable when the production process is already understood and the team needs to compare PLCs, drives, sensors, machine vision, robots, communications, software or integration capability.

Emerging robotics exhibitions answer a different question. Hangzhou’s humanoid event is relevant to developers, component buyers and organisations testing embodied-intelligence applications. It is not a replacement for an industrial-automation fair when the immediate requirement is a proven assembly cell, packaging line or conventional robot integration project.

Shanghai: treat CIIF and IAS as one industrial week

CIIF and IAS run on the same dates at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. IAS is a specialist show within CIIF, so buyers should plan its automation halls as part of one Shanghai industrial week. They are listed separately here to distinguish the wider CIIF platform from its dedicated automation scope.

CIIF is the wider frame. Its themed exhibitions connect industrial automation and robotics with CNC and metalworking, information and communication technology, smart energy, smart mobility, new materials, green and low-carbon technology, and integrated circuits. A manufacturer planning several linked investments can use this structure to see how production equipment, controls, data and plant infrastructure interact.

IAS is where the automation brief becomes more precise. The organiser’s current product categories include production and process automation, control systems, industrial PCs, sensing and actuation, machine vision, industrial communications, electrical systems, robots and manufacturing software. That makes it the core area for a controls engineer or system-integration team, while colleagues responsible for machining, energy or materials can work elsewhere within CIIF.

The scale and range only become useful after responsibilities are divided. A cross-functional team should agree which production process is under review, which interfaces require joint meetings and which halls each person will cover. Buyers attending alone will normally gain more from a narrow IAS schedule than from attempting to survey the entire CIIF platform. Early March 2027: choose a manufacturing region before choosing a show

Chengdu and Jinan run together from 2 to 4 March, while Dongguan overlaps both on 3 and 4 March; Jinan and Dongguan continue to 5 March. For most buyers, that makes a productive cross-city combination unrealistic. Their real value lies in the different industrial regions and supplier networks they expose.

Chengdu for a western-China factory and infrastructure view

Chengdu International Industrial Fair combines automation and robotics with CNC, industrial information technology, energy-saving equipment, advanced materials and regional industrial-chain content. The organiser positions it as a western-China member of the wider CIIF event system. This gives it a broader role than a stand-alone controls show.

It is a sensible choice when the buyer wants to understand manufacturing investment in the Chengdu–Chongqing region, meet equipment suppliers serving western plants, or connect an exhibition visit with customers, project sites or planned supplier visits in that market. A team seeking only a narrow list of automation components may find Jinan or IAS easier to navigate.

Jinan for controls, motion and factory utilities

The 30th Jinan automation exhibition is organised around the operating layers inside production equipment. Its current zones include industrial automation, electrical systems, instrumentation, robotics, fluid power, mechanical and electrical transmission, compressed-air technology, bearings and energy-saving equipment.

That combination is valuable for machine builders, maintenance teams and system integrators because a control decision rarely stops at the controller. Motors, drives, pneumatic or hydraulic systems, bearings, instrumentation and plant air can all affect cycle performance and reliability. Jinan should therefore be compared with IAS when the brief is technically defined, and with the concurrent Jinan machine-tool show only when machining equipment is also part of the project.

Dongguan for flexible automation close to end-user factories

ARE Dongguan focuses on industrial robots, automation systems, machine vision, sensors, connectors, wire-harness processing, 3D printing and related smart-manufacturing technologies. Its location in Houjie places it within the Pearl River Delta manufacturing environment, where electronics, machinery, mould, metalworking, automotive and packaging factories apply these systems.

The show becomes particularly useful when the trip can continue into pre-arranged integrator, equipment-builder or end-user visits around Dongguan and neighbouring manufacturing cities. Its regional character is an advantage for applied supplier discovery; it should not be interpreted as a smaller version of CIIF with the same national scope.

Tianjin: a later North China platform with a wider equipment mix

China International Equipment & Manufacturing Industry Expo (CIEX) follows one week after the Chengdu, Jinan and Dongguan events. The 2027 platform includes machine tools, robots, automation, artificial intelligence, welding and laser processing, pumps and valves, industrial electronics, foundry and die-casting technology. This makes it broader than a dedicated automation exhibition and more production-equipment-led than the Hangzhou humanoid event.

For North China buyers, the choice between Jinan and Tianjin depends on the equipment included in the project. Jinan offers a more concentrated view of controls, transmission and factory utilities. CIEX is better suited to a team comparing automation together with machines, fabrication processes and plant equipment. Jinan ends on 5 March and CIEX begins in Tianjin on 10 March, leaving four full days for follow-up and travel. A two-show route becomes useful when the Tianjin shortlist adds machine tools, fabrication processes or plant equipment that Jinan does not cover as deeply.

Hangzhou: a separate shortlist for humanoid systems

The Hangzhou International Humanoid Robot & Robot Technology Exhibition is built around complete humanoid robots and the components that determine their performance: joint modules, biomimetic drives, dexterous hands, multi-axis force sensing, AI computing, control systems and application integration. According to the organiser, the completed second edition brought together 473 companies and institutions; the 2027 event is the third edition.

This is a useful specialist choice for robot developers, research and product teams, component distributors, investors and organisations testing logistics, service, inspection or industrial applications. A factory that needs a conventional robot cell should first compare proven integrators, safety design, tooling, cycle time and service support at IAS, Jinan or Dongguan. Hangzhou becomes relevant when the project genuinely depends on humanoid architecture or its component ecosystem.

Which show should lead the shortlist?

A multi-department factory-upgrade programme

Begin with CIIF and use IAS as the automation core. Chengdu or CIEX can be stronger when the project sites and planned supplier visits are concentrated in western or northern China.

A defined controls, motion or line-integration requirement

Start with IAS, Jinan or Dongguan. IAS offers the broadest automation range among the shows in this shortlist; Jinan adds power transmission and factory utilities; Dongguan brings the search closer to South China’s applied manufacturing base.

Robotics for an existing production process

The best show is the one where relevant integrators and application references can be confirmed before travel. IAS and Dongguan deserve the first review, while CIEX and Chengdu add broader equipment context. Payload alone is not enough: reach, repeatability, cycle time, end-of-arm tooling, vision, guarding, line communication and local service all affect the result.

Humanoid robots or embodied-intelligence components

Use Hangzhou as the specialist starting point. Keep conventional industrial-automation shows in the research only when the project also needs established motion-control, sensing, machine-vision or factory-integration suppliers.

Build the supplier brief around one real process

An automation show becomes easier to use when every supplier is asked to respond to the same production case. Before arranging meetings, document the product, current process, takt or cycle requirement, payload, working envelope, accuracy, changeover frequency, upstream and downstream interfaces, data requirements, safety constraints and available floor space.

The comparison sheet should then separate the equipment supplier’s own scope from third-party integration. Ask who designs the cell, supplies tooling and guarding, writes software, connects MES or other factory systems, commissions the line, trains operators and supports the installation after export. Request evidence from comparable applications, but account for differences in product, duty cycle and operating environment.

For overseas projects, confirm the language and location of technical support, spare-parts availability, remote-diagnostics method, electrical and safety standards, documentation package, acceptance-test plan and responsibility for site conditions. These questions turn an impressive demonstration into a decision that can be followed through after the show.
