Two buyers can stop at the same lens display at SIOF and be planning very different businesses. One needs a dependable range of finished lenses for distribution. Another supplies an optical laboratory and wants semi-finished blanks. A third needs a prescription-order service. The useful follow-up depends on which of those orders you want the supplier to fulfil.
For lens distributors and laboratory buyers, a prearranged Danyang supplier day can extend SIOF Shanghai 2027 from product comparison into a discussion about supply. Use the fair to define the requirement and shortlist contacts, then travel with a sample and order brief. Buyers concentrating on frame collections or optometry instruments can keep more of their time in Shanghai and pursue the suppliers relevant to those categories.
Choose the lens supply route first
SIOF takes place 23–25 February 2027 at Shanghai New International Expo Centre. The organiser’s product scope includes frames, spectacle and contact lenses, accessories, optical instruments, and lens and frame manufacturing equipment. Within that broad offering, separate three lens-buying tasks before organising follow-up meetings.
For finished lenses, prepare the range of products you want to stock: material or refractive-index options, lens design, coating, diameter, required power range and quantities. Ask how the supplier handles replenishment across the range. A quotation for the most common items is more useful when accompanied by an explanation of how less frequent orders will be supplied.
For semi-finished blanks, bring your laboratory’s requirements and discuss how the offered blanks fit its processing work. Ask for the available materials, designs, base curves and diameters, and agree which samples the laboratory should evaluate. That conversation belongs with the people who understand both the product and your lab’s workflow.
For prescription or RX supply, concentrate on how an order becomes a delivered job: information required, available designs and treatments, order transmission, normal turnaround arrangements and the handling of a remake. If edging or mounting is required, include it in the brief so that the supplier can respond to the complete service you need.
Put two Danyang contacts against that brief
Danyang’s optical manufacturing and trading base is documented by Jiangsu’s industry authorities. That concentration makes a focused supplier day worth considering once you have a lens requirement. Two companies with published local contacts provide concrete starting points.
Youli Optical lists finished lenses, semi-finished blanks and RX freeform lenses, together with services including customised packing, edging and mounting. Its contact page gives No. 18 South to Reservoir, Yiwei Road, Economic Development Zone, Danyang, and [email protected]. Send the team the appropriate stock-lens, blank or RX brief and ask which specialists and sample sets it can arrange for a meeting.
Hongchen Optical describes finished and semi-finished lens supply on its solution page. Its contact page identifies the head office at No. 218 Qiliang Road and a separate branch factory at No. 985 Yingchun Road, both in Danyang Development Zone. The published sales email is [email protected]. Agree which location fits the discussion and whether the appointment will include the relevant production or inspection area.
Approach these contacts before finalising the extra day. A useful reply should connect your requirement to a product range, a responsible colleague and an agreed meeting. It also gives you a practical basis for comparing a Danyang visit with a further discussion at the Shanghai fair.
Make the samples traceable to the order
Keep the sample reference together with the quoted material, design, coating and other agreed product choices. If you are comparing a clear lens with a photochromic option, or different coatings, give each sample its own line in the brief. Ask your optical or laboratory team to specify the checks and acceptance criteria it needs before requesting the evaluation set.
At the supplier meeting, use those references to discuss how the order will be made, inspected, packed and identified for repeat purchase. Ask which production or inspection records can accompany the agreed supply and how the company handles a quality query linked to a particular batch or prescription job. A discussion tied to your sample is easier to turn into an action than a general presentation of factory capacity.
Leave the meeting with the next sample set, the information still required from your team, the scope of the quotation and the person responsible for each response. For RX work, include the proposed order and remake process. For stock lenses or blanks, include the intended range and replenishment arrangements. These outputs give your technical and commercial colleagues something concrete to review together.
Keep the regional visit separate from the show day
Danyang is a separate city visit. Reserve a dedicated day with a realistic allowance for the journey, local transfers and the meetings themselves. Agree the arrival station, meeting address and onward travel with the host when booking transport; use the railway’s actual timetable for your travel date.
One practical sequence is to use 23 February for the first comparison, return to the most relevant stands on 24–25 February, and arrange the Danyang appointments for Friday 26 February, subject to the hosts’ schedules. Two well-prepared meetings are a more useful plan than an open-ended list of factory stops. If the discussions need different technical teams or extended sample work, an overnight stay can give the schedule more room.
Make the travel decision after the suppliers respond to the brief. If the product choice is still broad, another show meeting may help narrow it first. If the unresolved questions concern samples, production steps or an ongoing lens-supply arrangement, the additional day has a clear purpose. Keep any return flight separate from an uncertain final appointment so the buying discussion has time to reach a useful conclusion.
