Auto Shanghai 2027 works best when those objectives are separated before the team enters the halls.
Auto Shanghai runs from 23 April to 2 May 2027 at National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai). A practical plan starts with one primary mission.

The show itself supports observation and initial contact. Product selection, supplier qualification and programme approval require different evidence later, so the benchmark should make that transition visible rather than treating every exhibit as a sourcing lead.
Choose the event around timing and region
For buyers still deciding when to make a China automotive visit, the 2026 Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition is a genuine alternative. It runs from 27 November to 6 December 2026 at the China Import and Export Fair Complex and covers vehicles, the automotive supply chain, new-energy vehicles and smart mobility. Auto Shanghai follows from 23 April to 2 May 2027 in Shanghai.
The Guangzhou edition fits a late-2026 market scan or a programme already centred on South China. Auto Shanghai fits teams whose decision timetable points to spring 2027 or whose supplier and engineering meetings are concentrated around Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta. A buyer comparing national vehicle and technology direction could realistically choose either date; attending both is more useful when the programme needs two observation points several months apart, not as one continuous trip.
Choose according to the date by which the team needs evidence. If a platform, import plan or technology review needs answers before the end of 2026, waiting for Shanghai reduces the time available for follow-up. If the project brief will only be ready in early 2027, Shanghai allows the team to arrive with sharper benchmark questions. After choosing the anchor event, build one event-specific route rather than trying to keep both itineraries open.
Automechanika Shanghai, automotive manufacturing shows and specialist component exhibitions serve different tasks. They can be valuable for aftermarket, production technology or a narrower system search, but their product evidence is not equivalent to a complete-vehicle benchmark.
Build a vehicle and system benchmark
Start with a manageable set of vehicle classes or technical workstreams. For finished vehicles, record target segment, body type, propulsion and energy architecture, dimensions, packaging, claimed range or consumption basis, charging or refuelling approach, cabin layout, controls, driver-assistance functions, materials, storage, service proposition and market position. Public specifications can support a market benchmark, while hidden software logic, test status, production source, cost and change history normally require a separate meeting.
Use model year, trim and market consistently. Two vehicles with the same badge may have different equipment, software or regulatory configurations. Photograph the display identifier and link every note to the exact vehicle or technology exhibit so the team can reconcile observations after the show.
Read each display at the right evidence level
A production vehicle demonstrates an integrated product offered or prepared for a market, but it does not identify every supplier or confirm that the displayed configuration fits the buyer’s destination. When a brand or exhibitor discusses a system of interest, identify the legal entity, product owner and contact responsible for the relevant technology. Clarify whether the organisation designs, manufactures, integrates, distributes or demonstrates it. The answer determines whether the next conversation should concern vehicle supply, component sourcing, licensing, engineering cooperation or simply further information.
For software-defined functions, record the hardware, software, data and service boundaries visible or stated at the show. Ask which functions are local, cloud-connected or subscription-based; how updates are managed; what interfaces the buyer would receive; and which claims still depend on target-market approval, data arrangements or programme validation.
Convert selected leads into project meetings
After each day, reduce observations to the leads that answer the original workstream. A useful meeting request should include the buyer’s application, target vehicle or system, volume range, programme timing, destination, interface inputs, expected role and evidence questions. This gives the supplier enough context to bring the right technical, commercial or programme team.
For a component or subsystem, clarify design responsibility, hardware and software boundaries, system interfaces, target performance, sample or prototype stage, validation plan, production location, tooling, capacity assumptions, quality documentation, change control, service and ownership of open actions. If the technology appeared inside a vehicle, confirm whether the contacted company actually supplies that implementation before using it as project evidence.
Where physical samples or demonstrations matter, define the next test around the buyer’s use case. Cabin materials may require colour, grain, ageing, odour, cleaning or assembly review; electronics may require interface, environmental, functional and software-version evidence; thermal or power systems need operating conditions and system boundaries.
