Xi'an: where China's imperial past still shapes the city
Xi'an is one of China's most important historic capitals and the eastern starting point of the ancient Silk Roads. The Terracotta Army, the remarkably complete city wall and Tang-era landmarks such as the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda give the city a cultural identity that cannot be reduced to a stop between meetings. The Terracotta Army deserves a dedicated half day or longer; the city wall and central historic districts are easier to combine with a shorter city stay.
