Prolight + Sound Guangzhou 2027: Pro AV and Music Sourcing Plan

Use Prolight + Sound Guangzhou for professional audio, lighting, stage and AV systems, then add concurrent Music Guangzhou only for a defined musical-instrument workstream.

An international buyer can encounter loudspeakers, mixing consoles, stage lighting, rigging, displays and musical instruments during the same Guangzhou visit in May 2027. That concentration is useful, but only if the trip is organised around systems and applications rather than an indiscriminate product list.

Prolight + Sound Guangzhou 2027 runs from 27 to 30 May at the China Import and Export Fair Complex. Its official scope spans professional audio, lighting, stage equipment, AV and communications, projection and display, system integration, and parts. Music Guangzhou 2027 takes place on the same dates in Area D, and its organiser says visitors can enter both exhibitions with one code or certificate. The second show is worth adding when the buying programme also includes instruments, accessories, music education, or instrument-production inputs. For most installed-AV, rental, touring and venue projects, Prolight + Sound should remain the anchor.

Start with the application, not the equipment category

Professional sound and lighting products are components of a working system. A loudspeaker cannot be judged independently of room size, coverage, amplification, processing and intended programme material. A stage light sits within a control, power, mounting and safety plan. A display or conferencing product must connect with signal transport, network management and the rest of the installation.

Before the show, prepare one brief for each intended application. It might describe a touring system, a hotel ballroom, a house of worship, a theatre, a nightclub, a conference room, a broadcast or recording facility, or a public-address installation. The brief should identify:

  • venue or event type, audience capacity and operating environment;
  • required coverage, sound-pressure or image-performance objectives;
  • input and output counts, signal formats and network protocols;
  • fixed-installation, rental or touring use, including transport and setup constraints;
  • power, mounting, rigging, weather and environmental conditions;
  • operator skills, control workflow and remote-management needs;
  • destination-market electrical, radio, safety and documentation requirements;
  • budget boundary, delivery timing, service expectation and expected life of the system.

This gives exhibitors a real design problem. It also reveals whether a company is proposing a complete solution, manufacturing one component, distributing other brands, or integrating products supplied by several parties. Those roles can all be valid, but they should not be compared as though their scope and accountability were identical.

Build the Prolight + Sound route around three connected systems

Professional audio: follow the whole signal path

The show’s official product groups include amplifiers, consoles, loudspeakers, microphones, public-address equipment, DJ products, cables and accessories. Map candidates along the signal chain: source and microphone, mixing and processing, networking, amplification, loudspeaker, control and monitoring.

For a live or rental system, ask how the proposed configuration changes with audience size, venue geometry and deployment format. For a fixed installation, examine zoning, redundancy, supervision, integration with evacuation or building systems where relevant, user permissions and long-term service. A distributor may place more weight on range architecture, channel protection, spare parts and training than on one demonstration model.

Use the show’s listening areas and system demonstrations to compare behaviour under known conditions. Record the exact loudspeaker configuration, processing preset, amplifier, source material, listening position and demonstration environment. A powerful outdoor line-array demonstration and a compact indoor installation solve different problems; volume alone does not establish coverage, consistency or suitability.

Lighting and stage equipment: connect effect with engineering

The official scope includes architectural and stage lighting, lasers, LEDs, lighting consoles, hoists, mobile stages, platforms, projection, special effects, curtains, truss and rigging equipment. Divide the work into creative output, control, power, mechanics and safety.

For lighting fixtures, compare photometric data, colour behaviour, optics, thermal management, control modes, ingress protection where required, noise and service access. For consoles and control, define the intended network, fixture count, show-file workflow, backup arrangement and operator environment. For truss, hoists, platforms and suspended systems, request the applicable engineering documents, load information, traceability and inspection route instead of treating a booth demonstration as proof of a complete installation.

Stage machinery, rigging, lasers and special effects can create serious safety and regulatory obligations. Final selection, system design and installation should involve appropriately qualified engineers and the authorities or inspectors required in the destination market. The fair is useful for identifying candidates and clarifying evidence; it does not replace project-specific engineering approval.

AV, display and communications: test interoperability

Prolight + Sound also lists broadcasting, conference systems, networks, projectors, LED/LCD/OLED displays, video walls, interactive displays, automation, digital media and convergent systems. This makes it possible to examine the boundary between audio, video, control and IT in one visit.

Bring a simple system diagram and ask suppliers to mark their interfaces. Confirm accepted signal and control formats, network architecture, latency assumptions, device management, user permissions, redundancy, monitoring and software licensing. If a solution depends on a closed ecosystem, identify which future additions must remain within it and what happens if one component becomes unavailable.

The organiser’s recent technical programme has included Dante networking demonstrations, an NDI ecosystem, recording and production zones, and integrated lighting, stage and media showcases. Treat the 2027 programme as unconfirmed until the organiser publishes it, but use the prior format to watch for live sessions where interoperability can be observed rather than merely described.

Add Music Guangzhou only when the buying brief crosses into instruments

Music Guangzhou is a separate musical-instrument marketplace. Its official exhibit profile covers pianos and keyboards, traditional Chinese instruments, strings and bows, guitars, wind instruments, percussion, electric and electronic instruments, sheet music, music hardware and software, education, accessories, processing equipment and raw materials.

That creates a practical extension for:

  • musical-instrument distributors and multi-category music retailers;
  • schools, academies and music-education suppliers;
  • studio, rehearsal and performance businesses also buying instruments or backline;
  • brands developing instrument accessories or electronic music products;
  • buyers examining instrument manufacturing inputs as well as finished products.

It adds little to a tightly defined auditorium, conference, public-address or stage-lighting project. Professional audio appears in the orbit of both shows, but Music Guangzhou’s centre of gravity is the instrument industry. A buyer should cross to Area D with a separate category list, not expect it to provide a second full comparison of Prolight + Sound’s AV and entertainment-technology range.

The shared dates and entry arrangement make a short, conditional visit easy. They do not justify dividing every day equally. Protect the anchor-show meetings first, then allocate Music Guangzhou a half-day or targeted blocks when named categories and exhibitors merit the time.

A four-day Guangzhou programme

27 May — establish the systems baseline

Begin with the application’s most important system. A touring buyer might start with audio; a venue project may begin with system integrators; a production company could start with lighting and stage technology. Compare complete architectures before focusing on individual products.

Use the first meetings to refine the brief. Record what each supplier includes, excludes and expects another party to provide. By the end of the day, select a small number of architectures for deeper comparison and identify the demonstrations that can test their central claims.

28 May — test audio, control and integration

Attend relevant audio and system demonstrations with consistent source material and questions. Follow signal, control and network paths across supplier boundaries. For installed systems, ask how commissioning, tuning, user training, remote support and fault diagnosis are handled. For rental systems, examine setup time, transport protection, replaceable parts and field service.

Use the afternoon for second conversations with candidates whose system boundaries are clear. If the quotation later needs to be comparable, agree on the configuration and accessories that must be included before leaving the stand.

29 May — focus on lighting, stage and the conditional music route

Compare lighting, control, stage and display workstreams against the project rather than the most visually dramatic demonstration. Bring technical specialists into conversations involving loads, network design, power, safety or software integration.

Buyers with a genuine musical-instrument brief can reserve part of this day for Music Guangzhou. Group the visit by one or two categories—such as guitars and accessories, keyboards and electronic instruments, or education products—then return to Prolight + Sound for any shared recording, production or performance-system questions. Other teams should use the time for deeper anchor-show meetings instead.

30 May — close evidence and next actions

The official visitor schedule closes at 1:00 pm on the final day, so it is not a spare full day. Use it for pre-arranged returns, missing documents and agreement on follow-up. Confirm the proposed model or system, responsible legal and production entities, quotation scope, technical data, sample or demonstration route, reference projects, certification responsibilities and next review date.

Leave with one system comparison and one action list. Separate open engineering questions from commercial questions, and assign each to a named buyer-side and supplier-side owner.

Compare demonstrations without confusing spectacle with evidence

Sound, lighting and display fairs are designed to be experienced. That makes live demonstrations valuable, but it also makes uncontrolled impressions unusually persuasive. Create a short test record for every serious candidate.

For audio, note the room or outdoor setting, array or loudspeaker configuration, processing, amplification, source and listening position. For lighting, record fixture model, optics, distance, control setting, environmental conditions and the measurement or visual criterion that matters. For displays and video systems, capture pixel pitch or resolution, brightness setting, viewing distance, content source, processing chain and intended installation environment.

Ask what changes when the system is reproduced at the buyer’s scale. A demo may use ideal acoustics, carefully prepared content, additional processing or a larger configuration than the proposed quotation. The right next step could be a design review, controlled sample test, reference-site visit or factory acceptance procedure. Define it while the demonstration is still fresh.

Plan supplier follow-up around the proposed system

Do not schedule factory visits merely because a supplier is located in Guangdong. First determine which unanswered question requires access to engineering, production or a reference installation. A useful visit might examine transducer or electronics assembly, fixture calibration, burn-in, environmental testing, software configuration, quality records, spare-parts support or system staging before shipment.

Ask the exhibitor to confirm the legal entity, manufacturing address, products and processes performed there, and people who will attend. A systems company may rely on several factories, contract manufacturers or component partners. The visit plan should follow the actual responsibility for the proposed equipment, not the brand name printed on the booth.

For a complex venue or event system, a reference installation can sometimes answer more than a generic factory tour. It allows the buyer to examine commissioning, operator workflow, reliability, service response and integration with other brands. Obtain the site owner’s permission and prepare questions relevant to the buyer’s own application.

When the combined route earns its time

Prolight + Sound Guangzhou alone is the stronger route for AV integrators, rental and production companies, venue designers, installers, distributors and project teams working across sound, lighting, stage, communications or display systems. Its 2026 edition covered 220,000 square metres across 22 thematic halls and drew 111,056 professional visitors, indicating why a disciplined shortlist matters more than adding another fair by default.

The Music Guangzhou extension is strongest for buyers whose commercial range crosses instruments and professional music technology. Its organiser expects four halls and 40,000 square metres in 2027, so even a half-day requires a category plan. The shared entry and venue reduce friction, while the different product centres preserve a clear division of work.

GETshow Guangzhou in February is a credible separate professional-audio and entertainment-technology event, but the three-month gap makes it an annual selection question rather than part of this May itinerary. Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition follows in June, ten days after Prolight + Sound closes; its broader architectural and commercial-lighting mission and the intervening gap also make it a separate trip decision for most buyers.
