Medtec China 2027: Medical Tubing and Coating Supplier Visits

Plan Shanghai or Suzhou supplier meetings after Medtec, using a tubing-and-coating project to decide who to meet, what to request and when a factory visit helps.

A catheter-development team can leave Medtec with an appealing tube sample, a coating demonstration and a proposal for an automated process. Each conversation may have been useful. The remaining question is whether the companies are offering different ways to deliver the same component, or separate pieces of work that someone still needs to connect.

Medtec China 2027 runs on 1–3 September at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. For this kind of project, a focused supplier appointment can be more useful than adding another medical exhibition: it gives the technical teams time to establish what will actually be supplied. Shanghai has a local tubing-and-coating contact worth investigating, while Suzhou offers a separate coating-services option. Neither requires a general tour of medical industrial parks.

This guide uses tubing and coatings as a specific example of Medtec’s upstream manufacturing scope. It is for teams developing or manufacturing devices, rather than hospitals choosing finished clinical equipment.

Start with the component you expect to receive

The words “medical coating solution” can describe very different purchases. A supplier may sell coating material for your factory to apply, coat components that you provide, or supply a finished coated component. It may also offer equipment for bringing the operation in-house. These proposals become comparable when each states what the buyer will receive and which operations remain elsewhere.

What you intend to buy What the next discussion should establish
Tubing for subsequent processing Material and dimensions, supplied form and length, and which cutting, joining or coating operations remain with you or another supplier.
A coating service or coated component Who supplies the underlying component, which areas are treated, how parts are identified and returned, and what records accompany the batch.
Coating material and equipment for your own line Material supply, process-development support, equipment scope and the work your engineering team must complete before production.

Take one drawing revision and one intended supply arrangement into the meetings. If the project is still open to more than one arrangement, label the alternatives rather than comparing their prices as if they were identical. A quote for coating chemistry and a quote for processed components answer different questions.

The same principle helps with other Medtec purchases, such as moulded housings or precision metal parts: define the state in which the part enters and leaves the supplier’s responsibility. The tubing example below simply makes that boundary easier to discuss in detail.

A Shanghai appointment can settle the first technical questions

jMedtech’s Pudong branch is a practical local contact to research. Its official company information describes a Shanghai office providing coating sampling, product displays and technical support. The group also presents medical tubing, catheter components and coatings. That gives a development team a reason to ask for an application discussion while already in Shanghai.

Send a non-confidential outline before requesting the appointment: the tube or component being sourced, the supply arrangement you are considering, the project stage and the question the meeting needs to resolve. Ask whether the appropriate tubing or coating specialist can attend and whether representative samples can be discussed or prepared. A sample service listed on a website does not establish availability for your material or travel dates; let the team confirm what it can do.

The location distinction matters. jMedtech identifies Xiamen’s Xiang’an area with coatings production and Haicang with catheter R&D and production. Its Shanghai branch is not a substitute address for those operations. A Pudong discussion may provide everything needed to agree a sample request; a visit to the actual production operation would be a separate, longer journey with its own purpose.

The company published a Medtec China 2026 invitation. That is evidence of an established connection with the event, not confirmation of a 2027 booth. Contact it directly for the new edition and ask for the current Shanghai receiving address before arranging a driver.

Add Suzhou when the coating work needs a dedicated meeting

Jiangsu BIOSURF is another research lead for a coating-focused project. Its official website separates coating materials and equipment, coated components, coating ODM services, application development and testing. Those are different commercial arrangements, so begin by identifying which one fits your project.

For outsourced coating, for example, ask how the team would receive your components, develop a sample proposal and return treated parts for evaluation. If your intention is to apply the coating at your own facility, the discussion instead needs to cover material supply, equipment and the support available to your process engineers. Choose the meeting around that decision, rather than requesting a general product presentation.

The published headquarters is Building 26, Dongjing Industrial Park, No. 1 Jintian Road, Suzhou Industrial Park. BIOSURF separately lists a Changshu production base on Haifeng Road in Haiyu Town. These are not interchangeable destinations: ask which team and operation you need to see, and where the company proposes to receive you. A headquarters meeting may be appropriate for applications or commercial planning; observing a production operation requires the relevant host and access agreement.

Reserve a separate day if the Suzhou meeting is confirmed. A visit to Changshu needs its own transport plan rather than being slipped into a central-Suzhou schedule. There is no need to combine both locations, or to visit both BIOSURF and jMedtech, unless each meeting answers a real question in the project. They are independent sourcing leads, not a preselected supplier partnership or a confirmed 2027 exhibitor pair.

Make the next sample request precise enough to act on

The most useful outcome of either meeting is a sample proposal that both technical teams understand. For tubing and coatings, it should identify the underlying material, the drawing revision, the region to be coated and the processing that will happen afterwards. Explain whether later work includes joining, assembly, cleaning or sterilisation so that the supplier can identify information it needs before proposing an approach.

Discuss what the sample is intended to establish. A catalogue example may illustrate a service; a sample made on your component addresses a more specific question. Your engineering and quality team should decide the test methods and acceptance requirements, including which questions can be answered on a component and which need the assembled device. Avoid borrowing a supplier’s demonstration result as the acceptance standard for a different product.

Agree who will supply the starting parts, how samples will be identified, what technical records will accompany them and who will review the result. Ask the supplier to state any change to the proposed material or process before making the next batch. This keeps the comparison usable when development takes several rounds, without turning the initial business meeting into an exhaustive audit.

For a US-bound device, the FDA’s Quality Management System Regulation applies according to the manufacturer’s and product’s role. Its FAQ also makes clear that ISO 13485 certification does not exempt a manufacturer from FDA inspection. Qualification and market requirements should therefore be set by the appropriate quality and regulatory specialists; a supplier certificate or a successful sample is not a blanket approval for the finished device.

Fit the visit around the 2027 show, not last year’s timetable

Medtec runs Wednesday 1 to Friday 3 September 2027 at SNIEC in Pudong. The organiser has announced those dates, but parts of its website still carry 2026 registration and programme material. Check the new edition’s visitor information before relying on opening hours, hall assignments or registration deadlines.

If a technical shortlist already exists, consider Tuesday 31 August for an agreed Shanghai appointment. That can clarify the samples and suppliers you want to see at the show. If the exhibition will determine the shortlist, use it to confirm the brief and arrange the next available technical meeting instead of promising yourself a factory visit immediately afterwards.

4–5 September is the weekend. BIOSURF publishes Monday-to-Friday working hours; Saturday access elsewhere also needs a specific agreement. A follow-up on Monday 6 September may make sense for a confirmed host, but it means extending the stay through the weekend. Check the value of that meeting before changing flights. Xiamen production visits involve a further trip and should be arranged separately, not described as a nearby Shanghai extension.

Before booking transport, obtain the receiving address, the names of the technical participants and the agreed meeting purpose. Ask about confidentiality, photography and any restrictions on entering production areas. A technical interpreter can prepare much more effectively with the component drawing and terminology in advance than with a broad request to “visit a medical factory”.

The successful extension is the one that gets the right team around the right component. Sometimes that is a Shanghai sample discussion; sometimes it is a focused Suzhou appointment or a later production visit. What matters at departure is knowing who will supply the next sample, what it represents and how your team will decide whether to continue.
