For jewellery buyers deciding on one Hong Kong sourcing trip in 2027, the useful difference between June and September is how the visit fits the purchasing cycle. Choose June when sample development, supplier approval or delivery needs an earlier start; choose Jewellery & Gem WORLD Hong Kong in September when the buying brief is ready for a concentrated materials-to-finished-collections programme across its two venues. Neither date guarantees that a particular supplier or parcel will be available.
The organiser now presents the June fair as JGW June, on 17–20 June 2027 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). September runs 14–18 September at AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) and 16–20 September at HKCEC. Both offer loose materials and finished jewellery. June puts those conversations in one venue; September separates the materials and finished-product programmes across staggered dates.
Start with the date the goods must be ready
A retailer replenishing a known range and a brand developing a new collection need different amounts of time after the fair. Work backwards from your required delivery date through transport, final inspection, production, sample approval and design changes. Ask prospective suppliers for their own timings before selecting the travel month. June creates more calendar space before a late-year deadline, but it is not evidence that any specific order can be completed by then.
For a new collection, arrive with a target retail position, metal and stone requirements, expected quantities and the decisions still open. If the design depends on finding a particular coloured-stone range, the loose-material discussion should precede the manufacturing quotation. If you buy finished stock, availability, matching sets, replenishment and order conditions may matter more than a separate upstream search.
The earlier fair can also be useful for suppliers already shortlisted remotely: meet, select samples and begin the approval process. September earns its place when seeing material choices alongside finished execution can materially change the collection or the supplier shortlist. There is no need to attend both simply to repeat the same introductory meetings.
Use September’s dates to sequence the buying work
AWE is the materials stop for diamonds, coloured gemstones and pearls; HKCEC serves finished jewellery and related products such as packaging and tools. The practical planning window is not seven identical exhibition days.
- 14–15 September: materials-led buyers can begin at AWE before HKCEC opens. Define stone or pearl candidates, quantity ranges and outstanding questions.
- 16–18 September: both venues operate. A brand can take the material shortlist into finished-jewellery discussions, then revisit whichever supplier needs a decision before AWE closes.
- 19–20 September: HKCEC remains open after AWE finishes. This suits finished-collection comparisons, packaging and order follow-up, but cannot recover a missed materials appointment.
A finished-jewellery retailer can focus on HKCEC from 16 September rather than arriving for the full week. A loose-stone dealer can concentrate on AWE. Buyers needing both should group appointments by venue: the airport-area AWE and Wan Chai HKCEC require a separate transfer, not a walk between halls. Confirm the 2027 transport arrangements when the organiser publishes them instead of building the schedule around a previous edition’s shuttle service.
Compare offers that describe the same purchase
For stones, attach each price to an identifiable item or parcel, dimensions or weight range, represented origin or treatment, available quantity and any report reference. For pearls, matching and consistency across a pair, strand or repeat order can matter more than the appeal of one example. These details let a finished-jewellery supplier assess a material candidate without replacing the original offer with a vague photograph.
For finished pieces, distinguish available stock, made-to-order catalogue products and original development. Compare metal specification, stone description, construction, minimum order, replenishment, sample approval and responsibility for any design change. A supplier offering a complete collection may take responsibility for stone selection; another may expect you to provide the stones. Those are different purchases even when the sample looks similar.
Keep one project reference linking material candidates, finished samples, quotations and unresolved questions. Discuss who will select, match, set and approve the stones before comparing a combined cost. A laboratory report answers the questions within its scope; it does not establish repeat supply, the commercial terms or the performance of a finished collection. That distinction is most useful while the shortlist is still small enough to investigate properly.
Choose the shorter trip when it answers the brief
June’s single venue is attractive when a compact visit can cover the required product families and relevant suppliers confirm attendance. September is stronger for your project when the separate material and finished-product stages justify the extra venue planning. The organiser’s current category information supports that distinction, but the final 2027 exhibitor lists and floor plans still need checking before appointments are fixed.
Registration information can also carry material from an earlier edition. Use the official event and admission pages to confirm the correct year, access requirements and opening hours before booking. Once HKCEC meetings are complete, Golden Bauhinia Square, beside the centre on Expo Drive East, offers a short waterfront stop without adding another cross-city journey. It is an optional pause, not a reason to reduce the buying schedule.
