Fashion Access 2027 and Materials+: A Bag-Sourcing Trip

Start with a bag manufacturer, compare linings and hardware at Materials+, then turn both conversations into one workable private-label sample brief.

The shape of a bag may win the first conversation, but its lining, zip or clasp can determine whether it belongs in your range. For a buyer developing a private-label collection, meeting the finished-product maker and the component supplier during the same visit can make those choices easier to discuss. It also creates a question: who will turn the chosen parts into a finished bag?

Fashion Access 2027 and Materials+ 2027 run together on 31 March–2 April 2027 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Combine them when you have a real design or component decision to make. For a straightforward order from an existing bag collection, Fashion Access can remain the main use of your time.

Fashion Access covers finished bags, footwear, small leather goods, travelware and fashion accessories, with OEM and ODM manufacturing among its buyer propositions. Materials+ brings a different part of the process: materials and components, including bag linings, zips, buckles, handles and clasps. The shows complement each other; a component offer does not replace a finished-bag production partner.

Begin with the bag you intend to sell and its use: an everyday tote, a compact handbag or a travel item, for example. Show the maker the intended dimensions, construction and target price position. Establish whether you are adapting an existing design or asking for a new sample. This gives the later material search a purpose: a different lining feel, a particular closure, or a handle suited to the chosen construction.

Ask the manufacturer which changes it can evaluate within your development schedule and which parts it normally sources itself. That answer helps you distinguish an interesting component from one worth taking into the sample process. Buyers seeking only a logo or packaging change may find the maker’s existing options sufficient and can use the companion-show time for another finished-product meeting.

Bring component choices back to the manufacturer

At Materials+, keep each candidate attached to a supplier name and product reference. For a lining, identify the offered material and colour; for hardware, record the size and finish; for a zip, clarify the version being quoted. Ask about sample availability, minimum order quantities by colour or finish and the basis of the quoted price. These are purchasing questions to resolve with the supplier, not assumptions that follow from seeing a sample.

Then return to the Fashion Access manufacturer with those references. Discuss whether the selected part fits the bag’s construction, whether a sample is needed to assess it and how it changes the finished-bag quotation. A component minimum order can exceed the quantity needed for your initial bag order, so ask who would buy the balance and whether it can be used for a later run. This is often more important than comparing the component’s unit price alone.

Keep one person responsible for the material decision on the buyer’s side. Agree whether the bag maker buys from the component supplier or the buyer supplies the parts, and who follows up if a sample changes. The value of the combined visit is that the two suppliers can discuss the same reference while you are still in Hong Kong. It does not establish production compatibility simply because both companies exhibit in one building.

Use the last day to settle a sample brief

A practical three-day sequence is 31 March for finished-bag meetings, 1 April for targeted material and component discussions, and 2 April for manufacturer follow-up. Shift the sequence around confirmed appointments; it is a suggested working plan, not a programme offered by the organiser. With both exhibitions at HKCEC, the useful movement is between relevant stands rather than an added mainland factory journey.

Before the trip, consult the official event pages for the current admission route and access arrangements. The organiser’s visitor page still contained previous-edition information when checked, so a 2027 registration process and shared-badge access should be confirmed rather than inferred from co-location. The dates above come from the dedicated 2027 event information displayed on the two show pages, even though their web addresses retain “2026.”

Leave with a short, shared sample brief: the bag reference or drawing, the selected component references, the party buying those components, the sample price and the date for reviewing the result. Mark unresolved alternatives explicitly so the maker does not substitute a different finish without discussion. If the range is already approved, or no suitable manufacturing partner emerges, the material detour can wait. The trip succeeds when it makes the next sample easier to evaluate and order.
