A pharmaceutical process team can leave CIPM 2026 with several plausible membrane systems and still lack the evidence needed to choose one. The useful next question is often about the liquid being processed: what must pass through, what must be retained, and what happens to the valuable ingredient during concentration or purification? Choose a separation question worth taking beyond the show
CIPM’s current visitor programme includes active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing, biopharmaceutical equipment, process engineering and testing, as well as preparation and packaging machinery. That breadth makes the show a useful place to compare a separation step with the equipment before and after it. It also means that a membrane appointment will serve only part of the audience. An extract producer might need to clarify a liquid while retaining a target constituent. A fermentation team might want to investigate concentration or removal of an unwanted component. Identify the question in that form before asking for a machine quotation: the useful follow-up is a test capable of distinguishing the proposed approaches, rather than another conversation about the equipment layout.
Keep process separation distinct from pharmaceutical-water supply and effluent treatment. Suntar publishes applications across these fields, but a reference in one does not establish suitability for another. For a finished-dose packaging replacement with no separation question, additional CIPM supplier meetings are a better use of the available time.
Ask Suntar which Xiamen activity it can actually host
Suntar’s official site lists its Xiamen headquarters at Suntar Technology Park, Zhongya City, Xinglin, Jimei District. Its company profile covers membrane materials, equipment and system integration, with production bases in several locations. The technical fit is more specific than the presence of a membrane business in the city. Suntar’s spiral-wound membrane page includes herbal constituent extraction, oral-liquid clarification and fermentation applications involving antibiotics or vitamins. Its experimental-equipment page describes a platform with interchangeable reverse-osmosis, nanofiltration, ultrafiltration and microfiltration elements for different separation trials. Ask the company to propose the person and setting that can answer the question. A discussion at headquarters, a laboratory session and a visit to an equipment-assembly site have different preparation and access requirements. Request written confirmation of the full address, host, language arrangements and whether the proposed session is a discussion, demonstration or agreed trial. Agree the next trial with the application engineer
Send a short, non-confidential process summary in advance. Describe the feed liquid, the component to retain or remove, the expected batch or continuous operation, and the measurements your team would use to judge a useful result. Have the responsible process engineer identify which details can be shared and which require a confidentiality agreement. This lets the supplier decide whether the right colleague and equipment will be available during your visit.
The interchangeable elements in Suntar’s experimental range make it possible to discuss different screening conditions; selecting an element still requires an application-specific assessment. Ask what comparison the supplier proposes, which feed information is missing and whether initial work should take place before the trip. If samples are needed, agree their identity, amount, packaging, storage, permitted shipment and receiving contact before arranging transport; carrying a pharmaceutical or biological sample in passenger luggage is not a default solution.
Use the meeting to put the proposed work in writing: what material will be tested, which measurements will be reported, who supplies the analysis, what the trial costs and what further work would be needed before sizing a production system. A scheduled demonstration with a convenient substitute liquid can help explain equipment operation, but it answers a different question from testing the buyer’s process material. Ask for that difference to be explicit in the meeting output.
The commercial benefit is a clearer next purchase. The supplier may recommend paid testing, further feed analysis or a revised separation approach before issuing a usable equipment offer. That can be a productive outcome even when no machine is ordered during the trip. Your engineering and quality teams remain responsible for deciding what evidence and qualification the pharmaceutical project requires; a successful demonstration or site visit does not establish Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) compliance or approval for the intended market.
Keep the Jimei appointment separate from the exhibition day
The event is at the Xiang’an expo centre, not the island’s similarly named International Conference and Exhibition Center. A workable proposed sequence is to contact Suntar before departure, use 27–29 October for CIPM meetings and request a separate half-day on 30 October for the agreed Xiamen session. This is an itinerary suggestion, not a published company visiting programme. Keeping it outside the show dates avoids spending a limited exhibition afternoon crossing the city while useful suppliers are still available at their stands.
Reconfirm after the show shortlist takes shape. If the necessary engineer is unavailable, the useful trial cannot be prepared in time, or the relevant operation is at a distant production base, continue remotely and price any later visit separately. A headquarters conversation that merely repeats a catalogue presentation does not justify an extra hotel night. A confirmed discussion with the people who can define and quote the next test may do so.
