CIMAMotor brings complete motorcycles, electric models, components and service providers into one exhibition, while Chongqing’s manufacturing base extends far beyond the halls. That creates a valuable opportunity for overseas distributors—but also a planning trap. A buyer who books factory visits simply because several companies are “in Chongqing” can spend more time crossing a large municipality than checking the suppliers that fit the market. The route should be built from vehicle class, export requirements and unresolved risks, not from brand familiarity alone.
What a useful extension looks like
Use CIMAMotor 2026 from 19 to 22 September to compare models, identify credible supplier teams and collect the documents needed for a first screen. Then reserve one or two appointment days for factories selected for different reasons: a complete-vehicle candidate, a critical component or electrical-system supplier, or a second manufacturer that tests a different price and service model. The most useful route is a set of focused appointments, with each visit answering a written approval question that the stand could not resolve.
Why Chongqing supports a factory-led follow-up
Chongqing’s official high-end motorcycle action plan treats motorcycles as a major manufacturing cluster and sets separate development priorities for larger-displacement and electric products. Municipal information identifies southern areas including Jiulongpo and Banan as a core for medium- and large-displacement motorcycles, while western areas including Yongchuan and Tongliang are associated with the electric-motorcycle cluster.
This distinction is commercially useful. A petrol-motorcycle distributor, an electric-mobility importer and a component buyer each need a different itinerary. The supplier base may include complete vehicles, engines and powertrain parts, frames and body parts, instruments, controls, electrical systems, batteries, motors and controllers, plus testing and export services. Setting priorities before choosing appointments leaves enough time to examine the relevant factories properly.
Chongqing government policy also emphasises export growth, higher-value models, local component capability, digital manufacturing and global service. Those priorities make the region relevant, but policy ambition is not evidence that a particular supplier fits a buyer. Every company still needs product-, market- and factory-level verification.
Separate the motorcycle brief before the show
Write the target vehicle class in terms that cannot be confused at the stand:
- petrol motorcycle, with intended displacement, use case and emissions market;
- electric motorcycle or electric moped, with legal category in the destination market;
- commuter, underbone, scooter, off-road, cargo, touring or other defined configuration;
- complete vehicle, semi-knocked-down or completely knocked-down supply;
- proprietary brand, private label or distributor-led specification;
- complete model sourcing versus engine, frame, electrical or replacement-part sourcing.
Then add the destination-market constraints: homologation or type approval, emissions and noise requirements, lighting and braking rules, battery and charger requirements, language and labelling, intellectual-property position, local registration documents, warranty expectations and spare-parts horizon.
This prevents a common mismatch. A model can be commercially attractive at the show yet unsuitable for registration, service infrastructure, road conditions or customer price expectations in the buyer’s market.
Use CIMAMotor to decide who deserves an appointment
The stand is the efficient place to compare model families and test whether a supplier team understands the destination market. Ask for the exact model designation, core configuration and current export markets. Clarify which specifications are standard, which can be changed and which changes would trigger new testing, tooling or minimum orders.
For each candidate, request a preliminary evidence list rather than a general catalogue:
- product specification and configuration discussed;
- available approval or test documentation for the target market;
- manufacturing entity and factory location;
- ownership of engine, frame, body, motor, controller, battery integration or other critical systems;
- MOQ, sample or pilot-order route, production lead time and packaging basis;
- spare-parts list, warranty process and technical-support channel;
- proposed next step and the reason a factory visit would add evidence.
A supplier that cannot identify the manufacturing entity, configuration or documentation behind the displayed model is not ready for an immediate factory appointment.
Choose one geographic and technical route per day
For conventional or larger-displacement motorcycles, begin by investigating candidates in the southern manufacturing cluster described by Chongqing’s policy, including Jiulongpo and Banan. For electric motorcycles and connected electric two-wheelers, investigate the western cluster direction, including Yongchuan and Tongliang. These are research zones, not promises of public access or short travel times.
Confirm every address and appointment before building the day. Chongqing is a municipality with long cross-city journeys, so two factories that share the city name may not form a practical pair. Group visits only after checking the exact location, meeting duration and transfer. One complete-vehicle factory plus one nearby critical supplier may produce more insight than three rushed assembly-plant visits.
Named companies should be selected from the current show leads and official company information after the buyer’s product brief is known. Xentra should not present a factory as recommended, audited or open to visitors merely because it belongs to the regional cluster.
What to inspect at a complete-vehicle factory
A factory meeting should follow the vehicle from incoming control to final release. Depending on the supplier’s actual process, examine frame or body-part control, welding or fabrication, surface treatment, assembly sequence, torque or critical-operation controls, electrical installation, end-of-line checks, road or functional testing, non-conforming product handling and finished-vehicle storage.
Ask which processes are internal and which are outsourced. For outsourced engines, batteries, controllers, braking systems or other safety-critical items, identify the approved supplier, incoming checks, change-notification process and traceability. A clean assembly line does not prove control over a weak external component chain.
Review how the factory links a finished unit to production records. The appropriate traceability depth varies by product and market, but the supplier should be able to explain model identity, critical component batches, inspection results and how a field problem would be investigated.
Add electric-motorcycle questions where relevant
Electric two-wheelers require a separate review rather than a few extra battery questions. Clarify motor rating and category, controller and software configuration, battery chemistry and pack design, battery-management responsibilities, charger standard, thermal and ingress considerations, range-test basis, residual-energy indication and electromagnetic compatibility.
The Chongqing market-regulation authority has publicly highlighted quality work around electric-motorcycle safety, range and residual-charge indication, and electromagnetic compatibility. Buyers should therefore ask for the applicable test basis and actual reports, not accept a range figure or “smart” feature as self-proving.
Also establish who supports software, diagnostics and replacement electrical parts after shipment. A distributor may be able to replace mechanical service items locally but still depend on the manufacturer for controller matching, firmware, instruments or battery fault analysis.
Check how export support works in practice
China’s motorcycle export licensing and product-notice requirements are part of the supplier’s domestic export context, but they do not replace destination-country approval. Ask the supplier to map responsibilities from factory release through export documents, overseas registration, warranty claim and parts replenishment.
Test the process with one realistic scenario: a repeated electrical fault, damaged shipment, unavailable body panel or a model change after approval. Who receives the case, what evidence is required, how is the root cause investigated, and how quickly can the correct part be identified and shipped? The answer often shows whether the supplier has real export-service experience or only a sales proposal.
A realistic five- or six-day structure
- 19 September: map model families and remove suppliers outside the legal category, price position or market requirement.
- 20 September: hold structured complete-vehicle meetings using the same product and export checklist.
- 21 September: focus on engines, electrical systems, batteries, controls, brakes and other critical components connected to shortlisted models.
- 22 September: revisit finalists, close document gaps and confirm whether a factory appointment has a defined purpose.
- First appointment day: inspect one complete-vehicle candidate and, only if practical, one nearby critical supplier.
- Optional second day: compare a second manufacturing model or follow the electric or powertrain route that could not fit the first day.
Skip the factory extension when the shortlist is still undefined, the supplier cannot prepare relevant staff or records, or the buyer has not clarified the destination-market category. In those cases, remote document review and a later targeted visit will be more useful than an immediate tour.
