An electric-bus buyer can find a compressor, a rooftop air conditioner and a battery cooling unit at the same exhibition, yet still leave without a coherent vehicle proposal. The useful next step is to connect those conversations around one bus platform: what the cabin needs during service, what the battery needs while driving and charging, and which supplier takes responsibility for each part.
CIAAR 2026 runs from 16–18 November at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre. Its component-to-system scope makes it a practical starting point for this exercise. A separately arranged Shanghai meeting with a relevant bus-air-conditioning supplier can then give shortlisted options the attention they need.
Bring two cooling requirements to the exhibition
The organiser’s current announcement includes compressors, condensers, evaporators, heat pumps, battery thermal management and intelligent domain controllers. That is useful breadth for a vehicle programme, but the purchase brief should distinguish cabin comfort from battery operation.
For the cabin, describe the intended route, passenger loading, door-opening pattern and operating climate. For the battery, bring the vehicle team’s temperature-control requirements and the driving and charging situations to be considered. Add the available roof space, electrical supply and intended export market. These are inputs for the supplier’s proposal, not calculations the purchasing team needs to resolve on the stand.
Ask each shortlisted company whether it supplies an individual component, a complete cabin unit, a battery system, or a coordinated package. This makes later quotations comparable: a lower-priced component offer should not silently become the reference price for a whole thermal system.
A Shanghai appointment built around a real bus product
SONGZ is one possible follow-up contact. Its official bus-product site lists roof-mounted ESD/EMB electric-bus air conditioners and an optional integrated battery thermal-management function. The same site publishes a Shanghai contact at 4999 Huaning Road, with the sales address [email protected]. This is a product-based meeting candidate, not a statement that the company is exhibiting at CIAAR 2026.
Send a short vehicle brief before requesting the appointment. Ask the company to identify the exact unit and options it would discuss, and whether a representative who can address the cabin/battery interface will attend. Its published product tables distinguish configurations and capacities; use those tables to ask which operating conditions apply to the proposed version, rather than treating a headline capacity as the answer for every bus.
The most valuable part of the meeting is the boundary between the two systems. If battery cooling is integrated, how is the proposed configuration specified for simultaneous cabin demand and charging-related demand? Which connections, controls and vehicle-side provisions belong in the bus manufacturer’s scope? A supplier response tied to your platform is more useful than another general product presentation.
Give the cross-city meeting its own half-day
CIAAR’s visitor guide lists 09:00–17:00 on 16 and 17 November, and 09:00–14:00 on 18 November. Use the first exhibition day to identify the suppliers worth following up, then preserve time for a focused meeting rather than fitting it between tightly scheduled stand appointments.
The published SONGZ contact is across Shanghai from SNIEC. Reserve a separate half-day, confirm the actual meeting address and check the route from your hotel or the venue before fixing transport. Ask what can be seen at that location and who will host the discussion; a published company address does not establish that a particular unit, test facility or factory tour will be available.
If the supplier cannot confirm an appropriately staffed meeting, keep the time for the exhibition shortlist. The final day’s 14:00 closing also makes it a poor place to leave essential stand conversations until the afternoon.
Leave with one configuration to evaluate
A useful meeting outcome is a versioned proposal that your vehicle team can assess: the selected cabin unit, any battery-cooling option, the conditions behind the quoted performance, the installation and control interfaces, and the supplier’s proposed division of responsibilities. Include the service-parts list, diagnostic support and the proposed support arrangement for the country where the buses will operate.
Before requesting a sample or prototype installation, agree which questions the next evaluation must settle and who will review the results. The supplier can propose equipment; your vehicle engineering team needs to accept its integration and suitability for the intended duty. That gives the Shanghai extension a clear commercial purpose: turning several promising exhibition contacts into a defined next-stage sourcing decision.
