China Wind Power 2026: How to Build a Wind-Turbine Supplier Due-Diligence Plan

Use CWP Beijing to map turbine and component responsibilities, then verify engineering evidence, manufacturing control, delivery and service before planning factory visits.

Wind-project buyers rarely struggle to find companies at China Wind Power. The harder problem is deciding what each company actually controls: system design, a critical component, assembly, project engineering, certification coordination or long-term service. That distinction determines which claims can be checked at the show, which require a technical workshop and which justify travel to a manufacturing site.

How to use CWP effectively

Use China Wind Power 2026 to identify suitable suppliers and compare technical approaches before starting detailed checks. The event is strong enough to build a market map, while design responsibility, manufacturing traceability and project-specific compliance will require documents and follow-up discussions after the booth meeting.

The sensible extension is one appointment-led follow-up day in Beijing, followed by document review. Plan factory visits only after the exact supplier, plant and unresolved decision have been identified. CWP itself is the specialist anchor; the other energy exhibitions in Xentra’s calendar are not credible substitutes for a wind-turbine sourcing mission.

Start with the package, not a list of exhibitors

China Wind Power 2026 runs from 14 to 16 October 2026 at the China International Exhibition Center’s Shunyi venue in Beijing. The organiser describes a 100,000-square-metre event with more than 1,000 exhibitors, and places offshore wind, hydrogen equipment and energy storage alongside the main wind exhibition. Its published exhibitor material spans complete turbine manufacturers, blade companies, gear and bearing suppliers, converters, cables, electrical equipment, lubricants, testing bodies and O&M providers.

That breadth is useful only when the buyer first defines the package. Record whether the project is onshore or offshore; expected capacity and site conditions; destination grid and certification requirements; localisation targets; delivery window; and the equipment, service or replacement part actually being sourced. A complete turbine, blade material, gearbox, converter and monitoring platform require different evidence.

Map responsibility before comparing quotations

For each serious contact, identify whether the company is the design owner, legal manufacturer, contract manufacturer, system integrator, authorised distributor, engineering contractor or service provider. Then ask which entity will sign the contract, issue the technical documents and warranty the supplied scope.

This prevents a familiar problem: comparing prices that cover different responsibilities. One quotation may include engineering, type documentation and commissioning; another may cover hardware at the factory gate. A useful meeting record should therefore show:

  • supplied scope and explicit exclusions;
  • design ownership and controlled subcontracting;
  • applicable standards and project-specific deviations;
  • manufacturing location for each critical operation;
  • testing, commissioning and service responsibility;
  • evidence promised, owner of the action and delivery date.

The organiser’s live exhibitor directory is an efficient planning tool, but inclusion in it proves only participation—not suitability for a particular project.

Ask different questions for different wind packages

For blades and composite materials, clarify blade family, material qualification, process controls, repair system, environmental assumptions and traceability from raw material to finished blade. For an export project, transport fixtures, preservation and field-repair capability may matter as much as nominal performance.

For gearboxes, bearings and mechanical transmission, focus on design duty, load assumptions, heat treatment and machining controls, critical-tier suppliers, inspection records, lubrication conditions and failure-analysis response. A generic production tour is less valuable than seeing how the supplier controls the exact product family under discussion.

For converters, generators and electrical systems, clarify grid-code interface, protection logic, environmental and thermal conditions, software or firmware change control, component obsolescence and evidence from comparable installations. Compatibility cannot be inferred from a catalogue description.

For O&M, inspection and digital platforms, ask who owns the data, which signals are available, how alarms are validated, what remote actions are permitted and how faults are escalated. A dashboard demonstration is not evidence of site availability or diagnostic accuracy.

Use a Beijing follow-up day to resolve open questions

Use the day after CWP for the candidates that can answer a specific open question. A productive session can cover the buyer’s specification, who is responsible for each part of the supply, the documents to be provided, comparable project references and the points left open after the booth meeting.

For each candidate, agree a dated next-action sheet. It should list drawings or certificates to be supplied, differences from the buyer’s specification, reference information that can be verified, proposed test or inspection points, commercial assumptions and the person responsible on each side. A factory visit becomes useful once the candidate can define what evidence it will add.

Decide when a factory visit earns its cost

A visit is justified when the buyer knows the exact site and has a manufacturing question that affects selection. Useful checks may include production ownership, incoming-material control, critical-process qualification, traceability, inspection and test capacity, nonconformity handling, engineering change control, preservation and logistics.

For very large equipment, verify whether key operations occur at another plant or at the project site. The registered company address, sales office and manufacturing location may be different. Confirm the facility and product line in writing before booking transport.

A supplier tour adds value when the open risk concerns manufacturing. When the remaining question is grid compliance, certification route, software control or project references, a specialist technical review may answer it better than a workshop walk-through.

Keep alternatives and adjacent shows in perspective

Energy storage, solar, power-transmission and general energy events may contain suppliers that also serve wind projects. They are useful for a narrowly defined sub-package, but they do not share CWP’s wind-focused buyer mission and complete supply-chain depth. Treat them as separate research channels, not as interchangeable events or same-trip additions created from a loose industry tag.

Likewise, CWP’s concurrent offshore, hydrogen and storage areas are worth adding when they appear in the buyer’s actual purchasing brief. A wind-only procurement team will usually gain more by keeping its limited meeting time on turbine and component priorities.

A realistic sequence for international buyers

Before the show: define the equipment or service being sourced, prepare responsibility questions, shortlist exhibitors by product family and request appointments with technical staff.

During CWP: compare technical approaches and responsibilities, record differences from the brief, request evidence and assess suppliers on their answers rather than stand presentation quality.

One Beijing follow-up day: resolve open questions with a small number of candidates and issue dated action lists.

After returning: review the documents, verify references with appropriate permission, and rank unresolved risks.

Once the evidence has been reviewed: arrange targeted factory visits, remote audits or third-party inspections around specific manufacturing questions.
