The price of a frozen fish portion means little until buyer and supplier agree what is inside the pack. Species, cut, weight basis and preparation can change the offer as much as the price itself. At China Fisheries & Seafood Expo 2027, held 27–29 October at Qingdao’s Hongdao International Convention and Exhibition Center, a local follow-up meeting can help put those details into one purchase specification.
For a buyer whose shortlisted fish or crab product matches Oceanese’s published range, a prearranged appointment in the Shangma area of Chengyang is worth investigating. Ask for a session that resolves a specific product or quotation question. The aim is an agreed next purchasing step, with samples and the right people available, rather than a factory tour added to the itinerary for its own sake.
Find the question that deserves a second meeting
CFSE’s established scope includes fresh, frozen and live seafood, processors supplying raw material and value-added or pre-packed products, and equipment and logistics services. A supplier of raw fish and a producer of a retail-ready portion may therefore both be relevant, but they solve different buying problems.
Start with the product your customer expects to receive. Is it for further processing, a restaurant kitchen or a retail freezer? Record the proposed species, origin, cut, size range and packaging format. Ask which company processes and packs the product, and which entity would quote and invoice it. This makes the follow-up meeting about an identifiable offer rather than the full catalogue.
The 2027 dates are confirmed in the organiser’s future-edition announcement. Some current visitor information still concerns 2026; check that the registration and exhibitor information you use actually covers the 2027 edition.
Ask Oceanese for the appropriate team and site
Oceanese’s own company profile describes seafood procurement, processing, product development and trade across several group entities. Its processing catalogue currently lists products including Alaska snow crab, haddock and Norwegian redfish cuts, and its contact page places the business in Qiancheng community, Shangma, Chengyang District. These published activities and location provide a specific lead for an enquiry, not a guarantee that a particular item can be supplied to your market.
Send the product brief before travelling. Ask which group company handles it, which team should join the meeting and whether the useful activity is a commercial discussion, sample assessment or authorised visit to a processing operation. Obtain the full meeting address and receiving contact; a general group address does not establish which production area a visitor may enter. Oceanese is an appointment candidate, not an endorsed supplier, audited facility or confirmed CFSE 2027 exhibitor.
The location makes it a possible local extension from Hongdao, subject to the confirmed address and road route. Plan a dedicated half-day only after checking the transfer with the host; if the proposed operation is elsewhere or the journey becomes substantial, evaluate that as a separate visit rather than assuming every group site is nearby.
Make the sample and quotation describe the same product
For a frozen fillet or cut portion, ask the supplier to specify the cut, weight range, skin and bone requirements, freezing method, glazing and net-weight basis, pack size and storage instructions. Discuss which tolerances and checks your customer requires. These are points to agree for the proposed order, not characteristics established by a photograph or a general company description.
If a preparation or tasting session is offered, agree the method beforehand. A restaurant buyer may need to compare usable yield and portion consistency; a retail buyer may also need to review pack presentation and the instructions customers will follow. Identify the sample batch and version assessed, then have any requested changes carried into the written specification and revised price.
Ask who will arrange samples, appropriate storage and delivery for subsequent assessment. Avoid treating food samples as ordinary luggage. The organiser’s current FAQ directs exhibition sample shipments through its appointed freight forwarder and cautions against hand-carrying them; obtain the applicable 2027 instructions and a suitable shipment plan for your own sample movement.
A site discussion can explain processing and packing responsibilities, but approval still needs the evidence relevant to the product, establishment and destination. Have the responsible quality and import specialists identify what must be checked before placing an order. A visit or satisfactory tasting does not establish food safety or market eligibility for future batches.
Agree the weekend before extending the stay
The fair runs Wednesday to Friday, 27–29 October 2027. The following day, 30 October, is a Saturday. A post-show session that day can be practical if the host explicitly confirms the team, samples and any permitted operating-area access. A production or technical team should not be assumed to follow the sales team’s exhibition schedule.
If Saturday is unsuitable, ask whether an existing supplier relationship justifies a meeting before the fair, or conduct the initial discussion at the exhibition and arrange the detailed work later. Waiting through a weekend for an unconfirmed visit is unlikely to improve the shortlist. Keep departure arrangements flexible until a useful appointment is accepted.
Skip this particular extension when the buying list concerns live shellfish, aquaculture equipment or a product outside the candidate’s confirmed offer. It is also reasonable to finish the fair and continue remotely when samples or technical staff will not be ready. The extra time earns its place when it produces a clarified specification, a comparable quotation or an agreed evaluation—not simply another company introduction.
