The same species can serve all three markets, yet a supplier’s most attractive display may not represent the product your customer will receive. China Fisheries & Seafood Expo 2026 gives buyers a specialist setting to make that distinction.
For a cod or pollock product enquiry, a prearranged meeting with Oceanese in Qingdao’s Shangma area can usefully follow the fair. Keep the visit focused on the intended cut and pack, with samples and the appropriate commercial team agreed in advance. Choose the product form at Hongdao
CFSE takes place 28–30 October 2026 at Hongdao International Convention and Exhibition Center, at 326 Huoju Road, Qingdao. Use that breadth to distinguish a source of raw fish from a supplier of the finished format you need. For each promising conversation, note the species, origin, cut, size range and intended customer. Ask who processes and packs the proposed product, rather than assuming that the sales company, processor and brand owner are always the same business.
Leave with a shortlist based on actual offers. An attractive fillet in a display case is a starting point; request the specification attached to it and identify whether that version is available for your destination market. This keeps the subsequent supplier meeting anchored to an orderable product.
Oceanese provides a local processing contact
Oceanese’s official site describes seafood processing, product development and international trade, with products including pollock and cod-related formats. It lists its group location in Shangma Industrial Park, Chengyang District, Qingdao. This creates a concrete follow-up option in the Hongdao/Chengyang area, without requiring a journey to a distant fishing city.
Contact the company with the shortlisted product and ask which group entity and team handle it. Confirm the meeting address, sample availability and whether a discussion or an authorised processing-site visit is possible. Allow a separate half-day after your main fair comparisons, subject to acceptance and the checked road route. A meeting at the show may work better if the relevant staff cannot leave it. Avoid transporting food samples informally: ask the supplier to arrange the appropriate sample handling and delivery process for the planned evaluation.
Compare the sample with the product you intend to sell
For a fillet or portion, place the physical sample beside its written specification. Discuss the cut and weight range, skin and bone requirements, freezing and glazing description, pack size and the instructions supplied to the customer. These are purchasing questions to agree with the supplier, not characteristics established by the company’s general catalogue.
If a prepared sample is available, use the preparation method your customer expects. A foodservice buyer can examine portion consistency and handling; a retail buyer may spend more time on pack presentation and cooking instructions. Record which sample was assessed and what changes the supplier proposes, so that a later price refers to the same product version.
An agreed site visit can help clarify the processing step or packing operation behind the offer. It does not by itself establish food safety, destination-market eligibility or the performance of future batches. Ask your quality and import specialists what product and establishment evidence is required, and obtain it from the responsible supplier before an order is approved.
The extension is worthwhile when it produces a clarified sample specification, a comparable quotation or a defined next trial. When the company cannot supply the desired format or arrange a relevant discussion, keep your CFSE shortlist and continue with another supplier whose offer matches the product.
